Was a Gshock watch fanatic for a few years. Sold the majority; kept a few

CDs. I had two more racks like these two, one to the right and one behind me. I only brought one of the four with me to France. It’s now in the second bathroom, in front of the sink.

These pics are about a year old. The collection has grown since then…

Europeaan Beer Glasses from the 80s.

All during high school I lived in Brussels.
From the early age of 16 I was allowed to ejoy the goldern liquid, and steal the glasses everywhere I went. At it’s peak I probably had 300 glasses. I think I’m down to under 100 now.

If I have the glass, I likely drank it.

Here’s a selection

I definitely collect software synthesizers and drum machines - I have dozens.

Double standards, as my dear old friend once told me.

Collect wine, you’re a connoisseur. Collect beer, you’re an alcoholic.

The difference is people actually drink beer. In reality no one actually likes wine, they just feel like they should.

(j/k - I actually used to “collect” it too, except it never lasted.)

I have several, more than I realized (yikes).

Most of you know about the vintage Conn saxophones (and other brass/woodwinds)…

There is also bourbon/rye (and Pechuga, mezcal distilled with smoked meats: chicken, turkey, brisket)…

Yankee yearbooks (I have every single one ever made)

John Fluevog shoes

Everything David Lynch - movies, art books, music, art show books/adverts, magazines,Twin Peaks stuff, etc etc

Vinyl albums (~1800 or so)

I think that’s it

In fairness there’s over 10 years drinking at my normal pace in there (setting myself up for overdue and possibly imminent retirement) and I only consider maybe one in twenty of what’s there to be ready to drink now.

Also many wines can be kept, and will improve for more than twenty years, whereas most beer can’t.

I actually drink just under two bottles a week. So I’m comfortable with that.

You appear to have a preference for brass with a silver finish?

This is my thing with wine.

  • All the wine I like (mainly rieslings and gewurtztraminer) are best younger
  • Honestly I don’t drink very much

So really I am much more likely to just spend more on a nice beerenauslese than to buy like 6 bottles of Landswein. Not to mention that Qualitätswein mit Prädikat or Appelation Controllée are kind of my quality table stakes to begin with - I mean what am I, a peasant?

Yeah I’m more of a big powerful reds man; Bordeaux, Rioja, Chianti etc. Which I generally don’t touch for around 10 years at least. They also have the advantage that they can generally take being open for several days which suits my one glass a night approach.

indeed I do.
It all started with the trumpet, then kept on going… and going… and going…

Reminds me of friends who married German girls. They all came back to US with Stein, crystzl, and figurine collections. Good stuff
