Good cover @sathya. No visitors this time. Did you install a lock on the door?
Good job @JDDaniel! I like the tone on that bass. Was that clean or did you put it through a pedal?
Was very good, I did not hear any issue.
Nice video production too.
Clean, through my Rumble 40 with it flat. The tone knob on the Bass was at 50-75%. Just got her today and this was her maiden voyage.
Nice!
Another great cover @sathya… Nice tone and a great cover production. Maybe what you are hearing as far as something being off might be the tones of the original bass line. I had to close my eyes to focus, but I could hear what I can only describe as a bit of “echo” in the background, and then at the end of the cover when you quit playing, that bass notes were still being played in the song. Did you remove any of the original bass frequencies prior to recording your bass track?
Keep on Thumpin’!
Lanny
Thanks for sharing that @JDDaniel… It’s so damn cool watching you progress and get better each time you record yourself!! Your timing has improved quite a bit over time with most of the issues taking place when you work your fretting hand down to the lower notes on the fretboard which is a common issue until you get more familiar with the fretboard. No problem with timing working up the fretboard but then, you do have a better (more clear) vision of the fret markers moving up the fretboard than you do moving down. This will all come together over time and practice. I can tell that you really enjoy playing. Love your new bass too!
Keep on Thumpin’!
Lanny
nice @JDDaniel , is it the Mike Dirnt Precision Bass ?
Sweet @Lanny … That means A LOT coming from you. I really enjoy playing! Just need to up my practice game as I am not getting enough reps. As my old government Teacher said in High School, “Repetition is essential to learning!”
PS - I just checked out you guys’ website and your cover of Readymade; now that is BadAss!!
Keep on Thumpin’! Aye-Aye
JD
Yes @terb, it is. I wanted a P as I just felt like my J wasn’t giving me “something.” I just got it yesterday (10/3/2020), but this P bass feels like it is giving me what was missing.
that’s great and as a P-player I fully understand ! nice choice for the Dirnt, it’s a bit different looking than the post-57 P we all have, but still with the split coil. that’s pretty cool
@terb I never realized you are in FR. Where (if you don’t mind me asking)? I work for a French company here in the US and get to Paris and some other areas every once in a while. Would love to meet up if ever we get the chance.
I’m about 3-4 hr driving at the south of Paris
No Lanny, I adjusted the audio level on the backing track to let my bass kind of hover around the original. I have not checked if a backing track without bass is available for at least some of the more famous songs. I should read the relevant post that I know is put on this forum on how to remove the bass frequencies.
Thanks for the feedback!
After a long hiatus of playing. I was able to finally pick up the bass and learn another No Doubt song. We have been extremely busy handling funeral arrangements for my father in law so I am a little rusty here. I hope you enjoyExcuse me mr (No Doubt) Bass Cover
Not an easy song to play!! Nicely pulled off!!
Out of curiosity: did you EQ the bass away from the original?? It sounds as if there are two basses playing at times, slightly out of sync…
I did eq the bass out the best I could however without being able to completely drop it out because it made the kick drum to weak.
also Thank you @joergkutter
Here is a cover of a tune I am currently practicing such that I can play it at my wife’s 50th birthday in about three weeks. Someone had mentioned the bass line to this song somewhere on a bass-related webpage, and I got intrigued.
The problem is/was to filter out the original bass from the song to record a cover - mainly because much of the playing is fairly high up the neck. @gcancella graciously offered to help with his “hi-tech” tool, but even that couldn’t quite get it done. So, in the end, I opted to use a “karaoke” type cover that can be found (and purchased) without the bass track. I would have preferred the original, but this karaoke cover is actually fairly close to the original and the vocals are quite good.
As I am still not completely routined in all this recording of both video and audio, the video here is from a different take than the audio you hear (thought I wanted to disclose that!). I used the Mayones here, almost fully dialed to the neck PU and mids and treble rolled off a bit - I was going for a P-sound with the tone rolled almost all the way off. Perhaps I try to post a version with my P-copy at some time as well…
Just for credits: composed by Carole King, who sings and plays piano on the original, while her then-husband, Charles Larkey, played the bass. James Taylor provided the guitar playing… The song was released in early 1971, so almost the year my wife was born
excellent work @joergkutter , that’s a very melodic bass line !
