Post your covers! (2019-2022)

I thought it was a great cover. Your timing and tone were really good. Very nice looking bass too.

Thanks @Jazzbass19 Joe & @Shane_Landen! I got that bass about 17 years ago from a website called overstock.com for $125.00. It sat around for years until I took the B2B course.

very nice tone @JerryP ! I’d say exactly the same thing that @howard already said about the uneven attacks, I think that’s the main point you can improve !

It’s always crazy how some of those ā€œcheapā€ guitars can turn on to be gems in the right hands.

Nice, @JerryP! First of all, this should teach @eric.kiser not to treat sweet Mariah to some nasty mash ups - this is how it is done

About the uneven attacks/dynamics that were already mentioned: it looks like you have a super-light touch when you pluck - that is probably part of the problem! I can totally sympathize - my touch is also quite light! However, a bass teacher I once saw told me that I needed to ā€œdig in a bit moreā€; not crazy much, but such that ā€œI mean itā€. Still, it is really hard to convince yourself to do that when you are playing at home with the volume about as high as your stereo would be. It is getting much more of a ā€œsurvival skillā€ when playing in a rehearsal (or, I guess, concert) situation

Anyway, maybe worth a try: turn down the master volume of your amp (or bass) a bit and bring back the volume by plucking a little harder - hopefully that can lead to a more consistent stroke also!?

That’s a great analysis @joergkutter! I’ll try that from now on.
Thanks for the advice!

Nice job @JerryP. I really liked the volume of the bass in this cover. I get that some people want their bass to sit in the mix like a finished recording but having the bass front and center is what I always look forward to hearing.

Thanks @eric.kiser! Much appreciated.

I have mixed feelings on that topic…

On one hand, I want my finished product to be ā€œstudioā€ quality. On the other hand, I want to showcase my bass. Alas, what to do?
On my next cover (working on it now), I will have the bass cranked up, because this particular song demands dominant bass.
Stay tuned…

Excellent. Love that U2 version of that song. Great timing. And barely the occasional glance at the fretting hand. Well done. :+1:
