NICE! @John_E … Love how the background of the video looks like footage from some music convention.

Great job @JerryP! Love your efforts on these covers and incorporating the additional stuff, pics, videos, etc. Watching that video brings back memories. Sad that 3 of the 5 are gone.

BRAVO!!! @John_E Man that was cool…all-time favorite song of many, beautiful bass and playing, and throwing in the Sax too…

Folks, Is there anything this young man cannot do?

Nicely done @John_E and the sax part is very cool. Your rhythm was spot on and so was the tone. My only comment (and this is just a post production comment), your bass volume level was rather high and it sounded just a bit muddy to me. Musically however, it was perfectly played.

Thanks Pam, yes I am still mix challenged a bit. Focusing on learning more.

hey guys, sorry for my late answer.

@John_E, talking about Culture Club : that’s a good cover, well played. maybe for a constructive critisicm I would say that some (very few) attacks are a bit lower than the others, and also maybe the bass tone is a bit shy. but that’s nothing really, still a nicely played cover  especially considering that it’s not an easy bass line.
about The Supremes : your P really sounds good. the sax sounds great too, even if I’m not at all a specialist of this kind of instrument. well, again a very good cover

@JerryP : good one as always ! but the mix sounds very thin and focused, I think you may have removed a bit too much of the original mix (I mean, a big notch in a wide frequency range). not a big issue. anyway, your Precision Bass and your playing both work well with the song.

Thanks Joe!

Yeah, as I was looking for the video I realized the same thing. Especially Tom Petty. Way too young.

Thanks Laurent!

You mentioned that on one of my other covers. I wonder if it’s the way I’m removing the bass part using Audacity? I have to find a better way to eliminate the original bass.

yeah maybe you could try to remove less of the original bass track, on a more narrow frequency range

I have stated to use the Transcribe+ app which breaks the song apart into drums/bass/vocals/instrumentals and then just drop the bass (or listen to just the bass for reference).
It doesn’t work on every song but when it does it pretty amazing how it does it (fairy magic and voodoo I suspect).

I have Transcribe! . Is Transcribe+ a different version?

The app for iPhone is, I believe different to the PC based. But not sure how.

Until a week ago I had no idea the app split songs up like that.

Here is the app icon and the part that pulls songs apart

How about some hard drivin’ southern rock?
@Lanny Lanny, this one’s for you.
@howard I gently used the Bass Clone: I hope you notice the difference.
It’s a fun song, and it was fun writing the bassline and playing it.

Played on the Hofner with LaBella flats.
