Post your covers! (2019-2022)

Yeah nothing wrong with using your pedals either but the issue is you have to nail it in more or less one set of takes; otherwise you need to make sure every pedal is set the same way when you go back to punch in again later, and it can be a PITA. Additionally, you can’t easily undo the effects for most of them, so you’re stuck with what you recorded initially when trying to mix.

But it’s still doable if you are patient. Just not nearly as convenient.

Rob and Sheri used to live near me in CT. Sheri is from there and they built a compound In this tiny little CT town. I used to see them almost every Sunday they were In town at the deli getting breakfast sandwiches. Really nice both of them. You could instantly tell it was them cause they looked like a homeless guy who kidnapped a local girl.

I always play thru in one take.
It would be a lot easier to break out parts if I mess up, but I just play it thru, and if I flub one or two things, oh well.

Sheri?
Sean Yseult was his GF when White Zombie started, up until the end of their first tour with Pantera for 2 years (which I saw 4 times, some of the best shows ever, Pantera and White Zombie).
I also saw them open for Danzig on Halloween at Irvine Meadows (Verizon Amphitheater, now apartments).
I dressed as Rob Zombie for Halloween, and I was constantly being hit up for autographs, if it were the days of smart phones, there would have been many people taking pictures.
It got funny when they were on the stage performing and people still thought I was him, AND would not believe me that I was not him.

I got mistaken for Guy Ferrari (or whattever his last name was) about 12 years ago when I had my hair bleached and my Goatee was still dark brown, not mostly white.
The guy would not believe me that I was not him, and I didn’t even know who he was at the time. My wife and parents started saying, oh yeah, you do look like him (sunglasses and all), and I had no idea who he was.
We were at the San Diego Zoo. I watched him when I got home, and thought, yeah, sort of, cuz of spiked white hair, and sunglasses, but not much else.

Ok, yeah, he took her on when White Zombie disbanded, I.E. he and Sean Ysault broke up. I always loved Sean, and her coffin shaped basses.+

Great heavy bass tone you got there.
Sounds pretty good, but still listening now.

Outshined! Looking California, but feeling Minnesota (always loved that lyric)
I think you’ve picked a great track and played it very well @Guto.

Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss Part 2

Link to original post

Everything is the same, except I used the Squire Pete Wentz P bass instead of the LTD Slayer bass, which is a bummer, but I need to check out the tone pot in that one, and play with a good pick up blend. I will do more Slayer covers, so there is opportunity to use that bass yet.

The new file. I am much happier with the tone, and think if I turned the track volume up a little, it could even be a decent mix, but it is down (the track volume) a little just so you can hear the bass.

Both files are in the original post, if you follow the link, in case you want to check out the tone differences.
I played this one a bit cleaner also, only a couple minor timing issues, but I really had to change the way I plucked it, or I would have gotten WAY more string and pick up clanking noise on this one. I need to put the Ramp on this bass, and it may be better, but with the semi tone drop tuning, there is extra slack in the strings, and they clank a bit more when I pluck it normally.

Fantastic! @Guto that was perfect!

New file sounds really good @T_dub! Awesome.
I’d have a look at that pot on the other bass.

Thanks, and yeah, gonna have to happen, cuz its a shame I can’t play Slayer on a Tom Araya bass

Great cover @T_dub . And yes I think your Slayer bass needs some electrical tlc.

Thanks much Mac.
Now you got me wondering, what is it that is simplified in Yousician?
And do they have different levels, like, could you select to play the full version if you chose to?
Timing of that F on the E string when chugging the odd plucking pattern during the verses, can be a bit daunting, timing can be a bit tricky for some of the slower parts, easy to jump ahead, AND the one part (twice in the song) that plays

3x - E-F#-G-E – F#-G-A-E – E-F#-G-E-B-G-E-A#-F#
1x - E-F#-G-E – F#-G-A-E – E-F#-G-E-B-Db-C.

Can be pretty tricky at first, but it is dooable once you run thru it 20 times or so. Thats how I learn them, just play them until I can play them without thinking too much about it.
But TBH, that part is very similar to Pantera’s New Life riff, and I played that on guitar along time ago, so I had 75% of it pretty good going in to this song.
I do that with each section, then tie it together. Took about 2 hours to be able to play it thru with about 90% accuracy, but that last 10% took a good 2 days LOL

Oh yes, huge difference. Well done!

Thanks, maybe someday I will get the Slayer bass fixed to be able to play Slayer songs
It could be the strings too, I will try something with my Stingray SLO special, has the same strings, just for my own benefit, I am going to record the difference between the Ray4 with EB rounds and the SLO with DR coated, see if the SLO is a bit thinner, more nasal sounding.

the Sustain on the P with EB rounds, was about 3x as long too. Again, is it the bass, or strings, for that I kind of think strings, maybe the coating dampens it a little?

That’s some pretty good bass playing right there. We can definitely hear it :smiley_cat:

They certainly do do different levels @T_dub on Yousician.
Some are so basic you really just play the root notes ( level 1-2) and then some are off the scale ( level 12).
I’m happily muddling along mastering the middle levels and to be honest enjoying the play with only a little stress now and again
