Post your covers! (2019-2022)

Thank you @Ed ! I’ve got to get a Beatle wig.

I was hoping you were working on a bass/sign video.
Great job both!
Their music may have been cheesy, but Karen Carpenter’s voice was simply out of this world, and Sara now gives a new voice to a song that is too difficult for anyone to do justice to vocally, which I think is just super cool.
I was so busy watching Sara, had to re-listen for the bass part, which you did great on.

And as usual, great editing!

The Carpenters had this kind of cheesy soft-pop veneer over some occasionally darkly weird and sometimes tragic lyrics. Best example I can think of is Superstar, which when you understand the lyrics is actually deeply creepy. Sonic Youth did an amazing cover of it too, really bringing that part out.

So true.
It is really interesting that all these songs of theirs were hits and no one really knew how dark they were. They were draped in so much lilt and cheese that apparently no one bothered to think “wow, this woman is incredibly unhappy”. Everyone just got in the elevator and listened to the ‘love songs’.

I can’t listen to the Carpenters without occasionally hearing the ‘ka-chunk’ of the old 8-track tape player my parents had that they played the Carpenters on. Ah, those were the days….

That is so true @John_E . Superstar, Solitaire, I want to fall in love, many others were beautifully performed, yet had sad meaning to them.
I’m tempted to do more Carpenters songs, especially knowing that Joe Osborn played the bass on most (if not all) of them.

Thank you @Mac , it was very special for me to be able to watch Sara join me in my love of music, something that she has been denied her entire life.

Thank you @howard . Yes, I love to tone that comes out of that Hofner Club.

Very true @howard. Superstar is among my favorite Carpenter songs, because of its haunting beauty and hidden meaning.

Great job Pam and Sara! I left a comment on the website.
IMO by far, Karen Carpenter one of the greatest female vocalists of the '60s and '70s. One of my favorites is “Ticket To Ride” another song of hers with some dark overtones.

I’m just back home and it seems that a new year has passed … so, time for the yearly counts !

In an amazing collective effort, we recorded 179 covers in 2021. That’s insane and that’s enough to beat the previous record (164 covers in 2020). A last number : at the time I’m writing this post, we recorded a total of 369 covers since the begining of this thread in 2019. How crazy is that ?!

All right, here’s my first for 2022. As usual it’s my bandmate and I covering the song from scratch. This is our cover of Trisomie 21’s “The Last Song”.

Trisomie 21 are one of the original post-punk/coldwave bands from France. This song is from their 1986 album “Chapter IV - Le Je-Ne-Sais-Quoi Et Le Presque Rien”. Great band, still active today!

I did the bass, keys, drums, vocals, and one of the guitar parts; my bandmate did the bulk of the guitar.

Bass: Yamaha SBV550 through Kuassa Cerberus
Guitars: Gretsch 5120 and Cort M600T, through Kuassa Amplifikation Matchlock
Synthesizer: Arturia Jup-8 V
Drums: Steven Slate Drums 5
Mic: Shure SM58
Plugins: Kilohearts Multipass and SnapHeap with several snapins; iZotope Neutron, Nectar and Ozone; MeldaProduction for the reverb, doubletracking and chorus.

Tracked and mixed in Reaper.
