Post your covers! (2019-2022)

I always record with the bass heavier than the orig mix so i can hear and b/c i am doing the cover for education— not trying to reproduce the orig mix

I don’t know how to ‘pull out’ the original bass track to compare it. I just do a high pass om the original and then import that into reaper and do a second track with my bass as i play along. How do you pull out just the bass track from the original?

you can use things like Moises or Transcribe+ apps to do this.
They will split a tune into vocals, drums, bass, other mp3 files and you just bring them all into reaper in separate tracks. They use AI learning to do this, pretty good at it too.

moises.ai is a website. You don’t need to use an app. There’s another one that is similar too, but the name always escapes me… Oh - splitter.ai. I used moises for the tracks that I prepared for the 50 song challenge.

Yeah, this… how can people critique it if they can barely hear it (since so many songs are mixed where the bass is almost hidden…)?

Thanks @Old_WannaBe  It’s actually a surprisingly comfortable bass to play for its size, although remarks have been made about me overcompensating

That’s a nice little bass you have there yourself - and with a surprisingly full tone! What model is it? I’m feeling a twitch in my GAS…

PS can’t wait for the director’s cut with the headbanging unicorn

it’s basically a plugin for your DAW (Reaper). @howard created a great topic about that : Plugins I Have Known And Loved

Depends here. You can give it enough boost to here it clearly. Too much and one (at least I) get distracted by the bass volume. And I feel it’s still very critique-able unless I struggle to here it at all

Trying out the Fuzzface…
All treble (bridge) pickup and a lot of help from the B7K to boost lows and cut all the highs.

Yellowcard: Oceans Avenue

Been working on this for a while. I used Moises on this one to pull the bass track. Recorded straight into my Focusrite Scarlette ii. No amp sims. Used a dynamic EQ and pumped the bass and cut the treble because my action is super low and I was trying to get rid of the clik clacks. Also original recording is very bassy without much gain. Bass is a little higher than even in the mix.

Let me know what you think.
