Yup, exactly. Thought I’d weigh in on this since I’ve done 45 of them already. I’m certain it has allowed me to internalize the concepts he teaches in the course and that I’m a much better bassist because of it. For example right now I’m working on the CCR version of “I Put a Spell On You”. All the things Josh taught about 12/8 time, major and minor triads, swing feel, etc. are coming back to me now, but because I’m applying it on my own, it burns into my semi-functional gray matter better. I know Josh uses this song in the course, but when you tackle the full song, you see the parts of the song he didn’t use. This is often a great opportunity to swim in the deep end of the pool --in CCR there’s some really quick swing 16th note parts, or check out the solo to “Running with the Devil”.
All of that said, I learn lots of songs, just because I like them, and it is deeply satisfying and helps me grow as well. When I am working off the 50 song list, I genuinely enjoy the process, even if it’s a song I don’t particularly like that much, just because I freaking love playing bass.
Haven’t done a drum and bass cover in a while. This took most of the day and now I’m so tired I don’t know what to say about it.
Bass and drum tracks removed with Moises.
The Cure - Friday I’m In Love
Nicely done, loved it.
thank you!
My father in law really likes this song, so I thought I’d learn it. It’s a fun song.

Ran this into my Darkglass Microtubes 500v2 and I’ll include a pic of the dials/buttons:
…then XLR out to Volt 276 and then to Garageband.
It took a couple takes on this one and the final video doesn’t show much enthusiasm on my part but I was digging it. ![]()
Original Bass removed with moises.ai.
Thanks for checking it out!
Two great covers PR_9207!
Drum/bass cover was done masterfully and BST takes me back to my youth. Great job!
Nice work on Folsum @cheeze_pizza !
thank you!
Great job @Paul_9207! As a side note the “Easter”colorway on there pops - I love it!
thank you!
Had to wait until I had time with some good speakers on these…
You did an awesome job as usual @Paul_9207 - drum playing and the dual-Paul effect are both great.
I am not fully digging how much picking noise is in the bass part, or, maybe the bass is a bit high in the mix for me. Don’t get me wrong, the tone and what the pick brings are both great, that little click is awesome, it just feels a bit overwhelming vs. sitting in the mix ‘just right’.
Great job though man!!!
I love BS&T but don’t know this tune at all, weird.
But that aside, you sound fantastic, and I love the new purple pickguard - matches your alien ![]()
Great job!
So as mentioned before (finally listening with good speakers to your performance), these songs all teach something, and IMO, they are all important things.
The 6/8 signature and the changing riffs with different syncopation is what this song is all about. I think you missed the mark on those bits trying to just git 'er done.
I remember when I was doing this one, and I stuck with it until I could get it down perfectly - what I have found is it really helped me remember to look at the details of songs and make sure I got the nuance of riff changes as they often are germain to the essense of the song.
I think if you don’t focus on these details now, other fast passing riffs and changing riffs might give you a lot of heartache later on.
Did you try to slow this down until you could play it clean, then slowly speed it back up again cleanly? If I had to guess I would say no, and you just wanted to tic the box - but I think you missed the point of the tune.
I actually don’t like that Josh calls these songs ‘extras’ - as they really are part 2 of the course in my opinion.
That bass came in hot that day, very hot! I made some adjustments on the amp and on the interface, but I should have also adjusted the SansAmp. I made no adjustments for the BST song, everything is setup for that bass.
I appreciate the feedback. I do make micro adjustments with each video based on the comments.
I update my father in law’s playlist on his thumb drive that he has in his truck. He is a big BST fan too and had never heard this song. He went crazy over it when he heard it.
and thanks and thanks!
It’s mixed a bit high but didn’t sound bad at all. A little compression and EQ in the DAW would help there as the clicks will be sharp transients in the highs. Fantastic song of course as well!
great job on the drums and the video overall, too!
Actually I thought the expression was perfect ![]()
Nice work!
