You’ve got to be so pleased with your progress @Barney .
You make it look so easy. I hope I look so good after 2 years! And that bass looks YUGE
I heard this song for the first time on Thursday. I was watching the Guy Ritchie movie The Gentlemen and this song plays with the end credits. It’s a song I feel I should have known. There are not really any drums so I threw some in there for fun.

Started in March 2020. Coming up on three years!
Nice song and very well done. I haven’t heard it before, nice choice.
A real blast from my youth @Paul_9207 .
Well played
How did you like the movie?
Decided to do a video cover of this one, felt like it was a little cleaner take as well.

Also finished this one a little earlier but am feeling too lazy to do a video for it at the moment, perhaps tomorrow.

The Jam! Awesome job buddy. This band is excellent. One of my dad’s all time favorites. Great song at the end of a great movie!
Great job @Paul_9207 ! Nicely done cover of a cool song.
Thanks fantastic @Barney
Sorry I missed you A/B comparison of the last one with the panning. Latest sounds great, so did the first. Love learning about all these little tricks.
Your line on this one fits in so well I’d have not guessed there wasn’t one on the original. Great job.
Yes, The Jam on a Sunday morning. That sounds so very good with my headphones on. A really nice mix. Top stuff.
Paul Weller’s had a good run from The Jam then The Style Council to his solo stuff (27 albums). I have Going Underground on my job site playlist. I think Bruce Foxton’s bass line in this is just fantastic. Right out of the gate the bass is driving.
That’s why I love this thread and the constructive critisism. It’s not just bass but learning / improving the whole recording and mixing process. @howard’s feedback about panning led to me remixing the track and replacing the original mix. The one on my YT channel is double tracked and panned L/R 5deg each. It sounds so much better.
going to try it this way on my next one too!
Try very slightly detuning one side as well, you can get some really neat fatness going
I had to go back and listen to this again. I didn’t read your post, just listened so I didn’t realize this song didn’t have a bass track originally. Very well done Barney. You did a great job!
nice job as always @Paul_9207
Finished this one last night. Stumbled upon this band a number of months ago and really enjoyed their sound. Absolutely love the singers voice, it’s very hypnotic to me. Toughest part about this one was editing the final mix. I noticed in the isolated bass track that the audio waves in a lot of the song are inverted so instead of the notes tailing off they gain intensity. Thankfully I was able to reverse a lot of the notes without compromising the recording and I think it turned out pretty well.

Tabbed it for you guys as well:
@Ant Thanks for sharing these guys. Very similar vibe to Winnetka Bowling League:
I think this mix is fantastic!
I didn’t know the original, so watched the video, glad I did
I think your bass sounds even better than the original mix, or just as good.
I really like this one.
