Post your covers! (2023)

I forgot how funky it gets after the false ending, nice job @DeadPixels!

Two forces compelled me to impulse buy this Squier fretless CV a few weeks ago

  1. My local music store had it, and I think Jazz bursts are pretty.
  2. This song – my favorite Police song. I love the way Sting slides the chords in the opening and its just not the same with frets.

I’m still staring at my left hand constantly and missing notes, but I know I must stay patient with these things. Thanks for listening.

Playing sounds GREAT @DeadPixels.
Would like to start seeing you too at some point.

Mix-wise you sound a bit muted and cloudy?.. agree would like to hear you more forward and clear, but that has nothing to do with your playing.

Nice groove

Cool idea to use fretless on this.
Your playing is great as usual, intonation a bit off to me - mostly up higher on the fretboard is what I think I hear.
Sounds spot on lower on fretboard.
So might be a function of ignoring the ‘lines’ and trusting your ears more.

Keep it up, sounding really really good overall @dlamson13

Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:
Weird though, sounded good on the monitors

It’s a fun one for sure!

Working on that, sold my cam, got a better one coming :joy:
Spent some time last night getting it working kinda decent with the phone for now though, cos what else would I be doing at 3-4am

cool to start making video covers

if I could get an advice : maybe you could try to pluck the strings with your fingers less perpendicular (or more flat regarding to the top of the bass), and avoid using your fingers as “claws”

Blocked for me.

Well that’s an old habit to break :joy:
Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks Jerry :slightly_smiling_face:

Guess I’m working to sort out the dodgy plucking technique now

OK, enough country music… how some good ole Rock and Roll?

Technical:
Squire CV '70’s bass → Scarlette 2i2 → Reaper w/CLA-76 compressor and Valhalla Reverb, no amp simulator.
Tab from Constantine’s Bass web site.

Nice! I was just listening to Heartbreaker the other day and had been thinking about her.

Well done as always, spot on with the timing and note duration. This song has a nice mix of staccato and sustain so the durations are important.

Yes  Huge fan. I closed my eyes and it sounded spot on.

Interesting side note about gear for our younger listeners. We have a reasonably priced bass ($400 ish) and a combination of a reasonably priced DAI and some inexpensive amp sims running in a laptop. Jerry is able to produce a great cover.

So today’s lesson is, spend less time looking at gear and be like Jerry; spend more time playing your Bass

Tone sounds good, nice groove in general too.
Not that this is important, but the video/audio sync is off.

I would offer up that you sound like you are playing a bit late on the beat vs. on and driving the tune forward.

Nice bass btw.

#belikejerry @Barney - always a good idea

Great job as usual @JerryP
This song longs for some bass player dancing, stage antics and, I’m afraid… splits! lololol
Aside from the lack of splits, you sound fantastic.

Domo arigato Howard! Yeah, it took a little time to get the note duration down.
Thanks again!

Thank you Barney!

So true!

Thanks John! Playing is challenging enough. Not even thinking about extra movements.
