Earlier this week I came across this video of Hunter Burgan (the bass player for AFI) doing a play along. I watched it and thought, “I’m not ready for that song yet.” A few minutes went by and I watched it again and thought, “why couldn’t I play that?” So I watched that video another 30 times or so to learn it and although I probably should have worked on it for another week or two I felt compelled to record it today.
I try to use a pick when the song calls for it, I really feel this should be played with a pick even though it is so much harder for me to do that finger style.
Playing on my Squier 40th anniversary jazz, which I must say is a beautiful bass.
Wow that sounded really really great @mediaklan
If I would offer any feedback, it would be to lay back a bit on the beat at the start.
You start laying back a bit furhter in and get right in the pocket a bit better, just rushing a bit at the start.
@John_E Don’t know why I can’t get ANY volume on his video. I checked other videos and everything is fine, but can’t hear his, hence the “volume” comment last night. I thought it was a universal issue with no comments on such a great song.
I love the energy, the tone, the playing, the bass, yeah just everything about it! What a fantastic cover. I need to check out some AFI…and keep putting in work, inspiring
Great tones coming from that 40th anniversary jazz bass but that is probably you PR! Great looking bass also! Man, have you come along way. Fantastic job!!!
Good observation @Barney ^^. That’s because I host my own videos and don’t rely on any external services. But since it’s my first time hosting files for streaming purposes on my webserver, I’m still learning some things and that comes with its fair amount of … issues I need to solve ^^´. Here I’m not too sure what is happening, but I’m guessing that the encoding I used is too weird and/or exotic for some people/devices.
That’s a great control on the descending slide @Paul_9207 every one of them are flawless. It’s a very difficult things to do. Great job. Your muting teaching is gig ready.
