Mmm, i was poking ahead and saw some of that in Module 8, I really need to get back to the lessons and stop getting distracted by the full songs.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Don’t Do Me Like That
Challenge accomplished.
I hope you all enjoy it and thanks for watching!

Wow, well done, Jerry. Kinda makes me miss my Aerodyne. Just out of curiosity, where’d you have the pickups set? Was that full neck, no bridge? Or more 50/50?
Also, if you don’t mind my asking (since I use Reaper as well), where did you have your levels set on the bass recording track when you recorded, and did you mix the level up during post? I guess I’m asking how you got such a great, level tone with Reaper, as that’s been one of my biggest challenges.
Thanks Tim!
Both pickups were set at 100%, tone at 10%.
I record between -10 to -6 dB using “Record Input Force Stereo”. Playback level is set at 0.0 dB. I hope this helps.
Yes he absolutely does start introducing that approach in module 8. I loved it; I thought “I’m not ready to do that” but what-do-know? it’s not so hard! I think he does the arpeggio version in module 9. I’m just about to get onto that lesson (next one I think) but been a bit busy for the last week. Managing practice but not lessons. Tomorrow!!!
hey @JerryP , could yo write the “Artist name - Song name” in your post please ? thanks
Done.
Sorry about that, Laurent. I usually don’t forget that.
Very nice Jerry! You did in fact deliver on the Tom Petty challenge!!
Heck yeah Jerry! Absolutely loved it, thanks for keeping the Petty streak alive
Awesome tune and great playing @JerryP. Nice job!
Thank you TMB!
Thanks dlamson! Fun song to play.
Thank you Glenn!
THE SISTERS OF MERCY - LUCRETIA MY REFLECTION https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MRmqINabg6o
Excellent, nice work on the cover!
Great song, one of my favorite basslines to noodle, and one of the first I figured out on my own like 35 years ago! and I wasn’t even a bass player
My roommate (and bandmate) and I decided to go jam, busking in a random coffee shop. I wasn’t going to drag my synth down there so I just grabbed my other roommate (and bandmate’s) bass. Lugged his bass amp down to the coffee shop, plugged it in to their wall socket, and kind of figured out Lucretia My Reflection and Bela Lugosi’s Dead on the spot while my friend did the guitar parts.
Kind of amazed in retrospect that they didn’t kick us out
Man that’s very cool!! Haha yea it’s a wonder they didn’t kick y’all out haha thanks for the kudos!!
I also did this one a couple of months ago, great tune!! I managed to muddy the start of the song by double tracking it, and getting it wrong!!
The Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection bass cover
Great playing, BTW @TheMadBassist! And I know what you mean by the muffled vocals. Even isolated, it’s pretty difficult to hear them about halfway through the song…
BTW, how come you never have the thumbnail of the video in your posts on here?
Thanks brother!! I remember when you did that bro!! Yea it’s a great song for sure and as far as the thumbnail goes man I don’t know why it doesn’t show up. I’ve tried to figure it out and can’t haha
if you can help me that would be great!!
