Great cover too, would love to see the look on your wife’s face when you pulled the bass out ![]()

Man, I really think you have deserved to get a proper solution to record by now … like an audio interface and all that.
I’m sure that everybody here will help you decide and setup soft- and hardware!!!
Your covers WANT it too ![]()
She’s “Oh, FFS………”. ![]()
Money is tight at the moment, but one day. Maybe around Christmas I’ll get all the components and do them real justice. Thanks ![]()
If you were in Germany I would have sent you my PreSonus AudioBox USB 96. It’s just hanging around in the corner, doing nothing! Not the best interface, but better than nothing!
Man that would be great
I would definitely appreciate that!
Maybe @Al1885 or @howard know of a very cheap solution? It’s really a shame that your great covers cannot show their full potential cause of recording via mobile.
For me it’s the other way around: my covers s#ck, but I have all the technology necessary…
BassBuzz to the rescue!!! ![]()
Your covers don’t suck haha
I appreciate it man, it’s nice to hear positive feedback! Thank you ![]()
I just saw that Hey Joe is featured in the 50 songs to learn vid
And @JoshFossgreen played it like i did, sort of!
Hey @groaner is that Josh in your thumbnail?
Lol, that’s Edgy Dwarf from Josh’s Tone video. Watch it!
Well this is simply not entirely true, may be for an android user but not for iPhone user for sure.
You can certainly record a great video covers with your mobile phone with great video and audio, relatively easy and cheap. It’s ranging from cheap (less than $50) and some effort to easy for about $110.
Cheap is using entry level audio interface with 1/4” instrument connection and record into sd card and doing the editing in either GarageBand or iMovie both are free.
Another is to get something like a Roland GoMixer Pro or JoYo MoMix pro and connect your phone and press record and you are done. The audio track is coming from your phone and it’s recording direct to your video.
JOYO Audio Mixer USB Audio Interface Stereo XLR+48V Phantom Power Mixer for Live Streaming Recording Podcasting Plug & Play (MOMIX PRO) Amazon.com
Here are a few example of the Roland GoMixer Pro and JoYo MoMix Pro they are pretty much the same, as I use the Roland 4camera app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I finished it up on my iMovie app on my iphone and iPad (I can’t see iPhone small screen very well,
). Dunno ‘bout you guys but listening to it now I still think that it sounds ok.
I just edited this first one since it’s the same song and both basses are short scale.
@Blaze PM me if you have any questions. I’ll also post another link explaining the interface later.
I’ll get with you in depth tomorrow bro. At Loverboy and Sammy Hagar concert atm!! Woo hoo
This is exactly what I do. I sometimes record into GarageBand (free on an iPhone), using a second hand 3rd Gen Focusrite Scarlett Solo as the interface. In the UK, you can buy a Scarlett Solo on Marketplace for £30’ish, if you hunt around. Ok, you also need a couple of cables to connect everything, but most of us have draws full of cables! I also shoot the videos on an iPhone, then sync in iMovie (again, free on a iPhone).
This morning, I was recording next Wednesday’s cover, with exactly this set up, on the hotel room balcony. (Yes, I know, I’m sad, I have a covers plan and pre-record things
)
At home, I also have a second hand Hotone Ampero One. That has a built in interface, so if I use that, I just plug the bass in, plug the iPhone in, and I’m recording.
Regarding the Scarlett Solo solution, even if you had to buy the cables, I reckon you could be up and running for £50, if you go second hand.l and already have an iPhone.
This is the part where it scares a lot of people, sync the video and audio. It’s like setting intonation, once you’ve done it a few times it’s pretty easy, but the first time it’s definitely not, ![]()
My current set up I have the choice of separate video and audio(s) I have them in both audio track and bass track, as well as the “room” track if I so choose. In the end, I just go with the easiest and most convenient route, which is the Mixed track. There’s no need to break everything down. If I do a cover, well more like a music video of my home studio track out of GarageBand or Logic then I’d probably go all out and do all separate track video and audio mix down. That would be a pain for sure as I don’t have that kind of workflow, ![]()
Agreed. I’ve found the easiest way to do it is to actually listen to both the (proper / high quality) audio track and the audio that is recorded along with the video. I get the them in sync, then by default, the image is sync’ed with the image. The video audio will either be the ‘clanking’ of the strings, or it could be the proper audio (all be it with background noise) if I’m ‘miming’ the video after recording the clean bass cover.
As you say, @Al1885, once you’ve done it a couple of times, it’s pretty easy! That said, for the one I (re)recorded the audio for this morning, we shot the video standing in the sea, at sunset. I couldn’t hear a thing and had to rely on synch’ing up obvious finger movements with the audio track!
A couple of months ago I dropped a bass cover of Gary Numan’s Down in the Park. Today, I’m playing the bass line to the Foo Fighter’s cover of the song, as suggested by one of our own from this here forum…!
Gary Numan is an icon of early synth music and influenced many, including Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame. The FF cover of Down in the Park really rocks up the song, building in intensity over its four minutes. It’s great fun to play, but sadly I can’t get the band to consider it - our guitarist doesn’t think it’s well known enough ![]()
Foo Fighters - Down in the Park
My daughter filmed the video in our summer holiday hotel reception. We drew quite an audience - luckily I have no shame and the euros to pay her ![]()
Oasis
She’s Electric
Recorded with Reaper, Bias FX2 and my Fender Mustang.
She’s Electric by Oasis is a really fun one to learn and it’s easy enough to pickup quickly. Taken from their 1995 album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? One of my favourites from the band. Thankfully this one didn’t get blocked like my last one.
I like this take on the song, nice playing and production!
Well…Gary Numan might not be a household name but I’d say the Foo Fighters are pretty well known ![]()
