For a 6 month marker, @JohnF, that’s bl00dy excellent!! Well done!! :sunglasses:

Regarding fretless, I’m now a year into playing and wanted to try something a bit different. A colleague has a fretless that he let me have a go on a couple of weeks ago. Wow, hard, but super-satisfying to try to play!! Buying it was also a way of satisfying this quarter’s GAS’ing

@Ed, I think that might be a bit beyond me at present!! But along those lines, these’s a lot more excellent 80s music that featured fretless, I’m having a listen too…. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Thanks, sunDOG…I appreciate that! I’m still getting my bearings with this fretted bass, but will have to give a fretless a go down the road. I din’t realize this “post your covers” thread was here, so this will be fun to follow everyone’s journeys.

Well done…especially with those transitions that make you travel 8+ frets! Very cool song and the light effects are fun. I haven’t worked with a pick yet…how long did it take you to get comfortabel with one?

Thanks Nebel! Playing the bass has been a fun (much needed) escape from everyday worries.

I started with a pick a bit more seriously about 1-2 months ago. My main goal with covers is to get as accurate to the original as possible. I’m a big Alice In Chains fan and both their bass players uses picks, so I had to start.

It never felt very comfortable for me with a pick, until I got a thinner one (.88), that made the whole thing click. My advice is to…pick…a song you like and experiment with various picks of different thickness.

Thanks for the kind words

not a bad advice

Yep, I’d been using the .7 and .88’s that I had from my guitar playing days and those just didn’t do it for me on bass. I (I think) am settling on the 1.4mm nylon max grip jazz III’s. Zero slippage with them and I like the way they drive through the string while I’m chugging along. I went through 6/7 different picks doing the goldilocks thing before I found one that was just right. Buy a multi pack (or a few) and play around with them.

Very well done on the fretless, sunDOG! I guess it takes some getting used to.

Never heared about Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Somehow I had to think about “The Fall”, don’t know why…

Thanks JohnF! Check out the User Video Index category, most everyone that has posted a video is listed there.
