Post your covers! (2024)

@AndreaJayne Behind Blue Eyes-Limp Bizkit
all around great job!

@Ed Lazing on a sunny afternoon - The Kinks
I never liked the Kinks for even one hot minute, except this tune.
The Hofner was a great choice here and you sound great Ed.

@faydout The Cure - Alone
sounding good!

@sunDOG Portishead - Glory Box (live)
Great band, great song, nice laid back playing really fit well. nice mix, bad can (F-Pepsi)

@JerryP
Damn if this didnt sound perfect. whisker high in the mix but still sounded brilliant!!! Perfect tone again sir.

@JustinAndSheba Suicidal Tendencies - War Inside My Head
wowsa! great just great playing - bit high in my mix anyway but playing is nuts!

@fennario Paul Weller - Broken Stones
didn’t know this one, man o man that tone! P-basses love love love LaBellas!
fantastic.

@dlamson13 I Want You Back - The Jackson 5
I really really really like your tone on this and how you sit in the mix, not as deep and muddy as the original, much better tone. one of my favorite songs and love whenever anyone does this one. Just goes to show you its not the bass…

@TheMadBassist Pearl Jam (Last Kiss)
Nice to see you again! great job as always playingwise!!!

@Silvia Sedated by the Ramones
good to see you attempting things that are a bit of a stretch, keep on at it. lots of timing/endurance issues - songs like this are good to play very slowly until you have the timing perfected, then ramp them up 1-2bpm until still perfect. None of this is a criticism, just feedback. I would keep this in your rotation and see what it sounds like again in a few months.

@sunDOG Culture Beat - Mr. Vain
wonderful cheese!

@DLiqacy Vengaboys - Shalala Lala
A++ for performance and playing!

@@BumbleJazz blessthefall - Hollow Bodies
wait, wha??? you have only been at it for a year?
I hate you young talented types
you are on fire, fantastic! get off the forum and go be a superstar!
Of all the folks here, I think you could tackle a different Jamiroquai song vs. Virtual Insanity, therefore, I challange you to match or beat one of my most favorite bass covers ever…

@BumbleJazz Paramore - Decode
two for two perfection

@faydout Portishead - Glory Box
fantastic laid back playing, love it

@Paul_9207 Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
The drummer came in late :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: - kidding
what a huge accomplishment, great project, you are going to need a good therapist for your split personality. Again, take this as a huge win for yourself, to play all the parts - move over Prince and Macca.

@sunDOG INXS - Suicide Blond
funky indeed, sometimes simple basslines are the most memorable, and hard to keep perfectly constant - which you did!

@tonyd89 Coldplay - The Hardest Part
great playing!!

@TheMadBassist DEF LEPPARD - ANIMA
one of my favorite tunes to see live, always sounded so damn good, well played! Had to go throw the album on after this.

@MattyD Your Love by The Outfield
Congrats on your first cover!!! well done.
minor timing issues, very very minor, they will self correct as you continue practicing. Keep 'em coming man.

@sunDOG The Cure - A Forest bass cover
tone a little too muddy for me on this one, but not being a Cure guy not sure if that is on purpose or not. Do you ever get any odd looks from passerbys when recording?

@Paul_9207 Edie Brickell - What I Am
One of my faves - you did a great great job, love love the tone, nice growl for a new twist on the tune, nice to see the drummer was there on time this time :upside_down_face:

@Al1885 It’s my Bass Week
taking off points for not citing song title and artist so @terb doesn’t lose his mind
Great playing indeed!
Does the Joe Dart come with flats on it or did you put? If put, which ones?
all sound great, but suprisingly, I like them all for different reasons, but love the sound you are getting on the VI.
I’d give you an A, but you get a B for not titles and artists!!!

@tonyd89 DJO - End of Beginning
nice job, never heard the tune.

@JustinAndSheba Saxon - Power and the Glory
Chug-a-lishous dude!

@beaurapp Boogie Nights by Heatwave

@sunDOG Credence Clearwater Revival - Bad Moon Rising
great sounding bassline to one of my least favorite songs (unless its in American Werewolf in London

@beaurapp “I Feel For You” by Prince

@AndreaJayne Spirit In The Sky - Norman Greenbaum

@AndreaJayne Hosier-Too Sweet
sounds great!
@AndreaJayne The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
couple of timing issues on chugging but super minor, well done overall

@Ed Circle of the Tyrants by Celtic Frost.
from 60s psycadelic to modern metal, the Hofner?!? does it all!!
sounds fantastic! great chugging- easier to smash at the end of the show too

@BeerBaron “Oye Como Va”
please add artists when posting for @terb to track stats easier
this is incredible for 3 months, timing is amazing
you can use a compressor or compressor plugin to tame your playing into the mix and still have dynamics but not go too nuts - don’t hate me for opening the compressor worm/black hole - i apologize, lololol

@401Blues Althea - Grateful Dead
congrats on the pedal purchase, fantastic choice
love the tone and playing

@sunDOG INXS - Mystify
forget how much I love INXS and that VOICE!!!
what a great way to practice and learn slap while making a cover, well done and great idea, sounded good to me. why did you decide to use a fret wrap on the dingwall?

@401Blues Turn On the Lovelight - Bill Black’s Combo
feels like you are rushing the beat quite a bit here, or maybe an editing problem?

@JDDaniel Goodness of God

@AndreaJayne Season Of The Witch - Donavan
yay Donovan! very nice job here!!!

@Qohelet-David “Still Alive” from Valve’s Portal .
bass way way high in the mix, making it hard to love, but playing is perfect. Hate when those weird audio things creep in and can’t be figured out, happens to me too.

@TheMadBassist TESLA - MODERN DAY COWBOY
freaking amazing. loved it. one of your best!!!

@401Blues In The Midnight Hour - Wilson Pickett

You got it big guy, I hear you and it’s fixed.

Yeah! The flats came installed. It sounds pretty awesome, this is the one bass I won’t change the strings.

OMG that was amazing! Well done! This was perhaps my fave RHCP tune, but you just owned it so I guess it’s now my fave @dlamson13 tune. :metal:

Nice catch up!

Haha Paul sets a high standard with these, it won’t be that cool, but I have something in the works :wink:

Thanks! You know something, as cheap as this bass is, the P-Pickup sounds really good. I couldn’t get a good sound for this with my J’s for the life of me. I liked the tone so much I almost bought a MIM P Bass at my local shop, but just didn’t really connect with it. I want my next bass to have a split coil though, thinking about trying something in the BB line.

Thanks Paul! Appreciate that, been inspired lately to push through some challenges.

“Circumstances” by Rush!

For some reason, I just couldn’t for the life of me play this while standing. But sitting? Nearly perfect. Sheesh…

“Leave That Thing Alone” by Rush

Not my best cover, I rushed and dragged more times than I am happy with, so I’ll probably practice again from slower tempos and redo this at some point.

10 Likes

Haha thanks a lot @fenarrio!! For now I’m “renting to own” the tune, until I can play it while jumping on and off speaker cabs like Flea.

5 Likes

Dude I know, I have no clue what happened. I’ll have to redo it at some point cuz the bass audio is atrocious.
