Come on @Ed, just go for it!
I receive that, thank you! Glad you got a chuckle out of it.
You’re not the first person to suggest the vocals thing. I’m not the best singer but I can hit the notes, especially in certain keys, since I’m a baritone and the lowest note I can consistently sing is probably an E2 or so, though in the mornings, it can be as low as D2.
In any event, thank you for the kind words! Yeah that song was incredibly challenging due to all the new things, but that’s what makes bass such a fun hobby! New frontiers can be found everywhere.
And yeah, the dead notes in LTTA give it so much flavor, I love it too!
Never heard of this band. I dig it though. Great job brother
Thanks Trav! This was an early '80’s tune, and the claim to fame was being included in the move Valley Girl. The band broke up by '84. It was as fun to play as I’d hoped it would be.
Cool song, great playing, @fennario!
Well done, @AndreaJayne !
Oh yea, the old Nicolas Cage film from the early 80’s. Cool! Yea man it sounded good!!
“Show Don’t Tell” by Rush, first ~70% or so of the bass break. Man, this is hard! Crazy string crossings, harmonics, pulls, hammer-ons, dead notes, and fast as heck!
Not to mention the wrist strain of plucking over the bridge pickup… but I need to play there to get that trebly twang.
Yep. Always loved that song (and that scene).
First cover since Jan 2024. Forgot how to use reaper, get the video to match, etc. etc. Pretty simple punk song I-V-VI-IV. I drop one note during the bridge. Otherwise think its pretty solid.
Played on my crappy used Ibanez 32 scale–Has just the right amount of growl and the shorter scale makes the fast switches easier. Going from the IV back to I during the chorus, I use my pinkie rather than shifting position and then creep my index back to play the V the next bar.
I used to do a ton of these and my playing has dropped off significantly, but trying to get back into things. Lemme know what you think.
I haven’t heard this song in a long long time. It does sound like a fun bass line. You did a great job playing it.
I’ve not heard this song before, but I was diggin it! fun bass line too!
Come on @Ed, just go for it!
Oh just joking - I like noodling aound with these tracks at home but I’m too lazy to really polish them up to the point I can officially cover them You do a much better job
just go for it!
Also, with your output (two songs a week), we are bound to play your songs too one day, as you will have played all great songs ever made eventually
I think I can almost guarantee that no one has considered this weeks’ mid week cover
I’m posting on Thursday though, rather than Wednesday, as the cover is in memory of my father’s passing.
I think I can almost guarantee that no one has considered this weeks’ mid week cover
Knowing you, I’m pretty sure, it’s this:
To mark the anniversary of my father’s passing….?
Oh, sorry - didn’t see the 2nd sentence (just woke up … hard weekend!).
