I made the edit thanks!
Everything about this video is cool! The green screen turned out amazing. How did you work the video into the background frame like that?
Everything fit so well together! I love the added production quality. It’s a good reminder that I need to try harder on my cover videos.
Just wanted to say you looked really smooth and comfortable playing on this song, it looks like you have gone up another notch…guess all the practice and playing still paying off…or maybe its the P ![]()
Thanks Paul! Got another lined up I think you’ll like, it’s fast, played with a pick, almost feels like the bass is making me do it ![]()
Well here’s hoping for Feel Better Inc. What a great video and cover! I’ve gotta give you props for actually doing something constructive during the interlude and singing it, I think I sipped some beer during that part or something when I did it ![]()
Sounds great fennario…love the slides in it!
Cool song choice…sounds great…really like when the song goes form the higher notes back to the e-string.
I think this is the first mellow cover I’ve seen of yours and creating your own bass track to a baseless song. Really well done…enjoyed this one!
Thanks a lot @g13dip, that is very encouraging!
Its been about 3 years since I decided to play bass and after the first year or so, the ways we grow as players is a lot more subtle than in the beginning. Mostly those kind of things you mentioned. I notice this a lot when I watch a good local band play. Most of times the bass player isn’t doing pyrotechnics or anything, but they seem super comfortable and in command of their instrument, probably from years of gigging.
It’s very cool that you’re doing a deep dive on In Utero. It is such an interesting record, I know I wore out the cassette back when it came out, now hearing these songs “bass forward” has been a lot of fun.
Yeah I think Steve Albini was the right guy to produce the In Utero record but he mixes the bass very low
…there are a few cool bass lines that are totally buried, and I was surprised what they had when I learned them
Looks like a fun song to play! Nice job…especially since you just started getting serious in October!
Very cool cover…the sound effects worked well for that song. Your cat is your sound engineer. Haven’t played with a pick yet, so I have to give that a try.
That was awesome John! Very well done. Keep up the good work.
Thanks @howard, I rather like hunting out alternate versions of songs. I remember first hearing the original, I was revising for my ‘O’ levels (aged 16), and came it was played on the radio, I bought the single that weekend.
Much appreciated, Travis!!
Thank you, @Paul_9207!
Thanks, @BackcountryBassist. I’ve done a couple of others, there was a Mel C song and a cover by Jasmine Thompson of Chaka Khan’s Ain’t Nobody that I put a bass line too. It’s fun finding alt. versions of songs and playing around with them.
Thank you Matty, I really appreciate your feedback. The green screen works brilliantly for just a green cloth. I use Davinci Resolve (free version at the moment) for pretty much everything except recording my audio. The background Gorillaz video is just under neath my green screen layers, it’s really easy. The ‘frame’ is an effect in Resolve. You can play around with a few settings, and change the colour etc. You just drag the effect onto the video, and it’s done. Honestly, I was just trying to avoid copyright by putting the original video in a frame, and reducing the saturation, but it did come out really well ![]()
Thank you! I didn’t realise it was Pat Benatar. She has such a great voice. ![]()
Thank you. I am on day 48 of alcohol prohibition, so not an option for me, but a great suggestion all the same!
Thanks, JerryP! That one took a while to learn with all the variations and different fills…not a lot of repeated bass material in that song.
Happy Together - The Turtles
Glad to say I have had a productive Sunday! I love this song, it’s on my ‘driving’ playlist of songs to sing along to. Had a bit of a mare with this one for a few technical reasons, but got there in the end ![]()
