Thanks for sharing such a personal story, and the song that you have recorded in your Dad’s memory. Sorry for your loss.
It is great that he was such an inspiration to you
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words, there are so many great memories that come to mind. He took me to see Iron Maiden and Twisted Sister when I was 13. Bless his heart that wasn’t even his style of music, but he loved me enough to do that for me He posed as a reporter back in the 70’s to get back stage and meet Jackie Wilson!! I have a Polaroid picture of that. Pretty cool I think! He was just such a great dude! I remember listening to his 8 tracks and LPs on the weekend. Willie Nelson, Foghat, Frampton, and boy did he love Elton John. Probably why I do too, he had a great love of different artists, so I grew up hearing and learning so much about musical styles and genres. He had a 45 collection that would rival any retro store. He’s really missed!
SINEAD O’CONNOR - NOTHING COMPARES 2 U https://youtu.be/9O2t1_ohwpw?si=YVyULUa8NZG16ovs So today I present my cover of this great song from 1990, always loved it and decided why not? FYI, it was written by Prince in case you weren’t “in the know.” Not a particularly hard song other than keeping up with the long drawn out notes. I apologize firsthand for appearing as a festive, slightly chubby Santa Claus with my red shirt on and tree
in the background. Sue me…….thanks for watching and enjoy!
Love it man. Great tune and playing as always. I think we both have the Santa Claus aspect covered…LOL!!
Thanks amigo!! You are slightly more geared for the role than myself, although I am slowly catching up haha
You beat me to it!! Only this week, I uploaded this song to Moises!! (Still gonna do it )
Great playing!
Thank you! Hey great minds think alike brother haha sorry man, had no clue we were trying to steal each other’s thunder haha. Yea man for sure drop your cover, definitely love to see that!! Now if we do this again, we will have to question who’s the fly on the wall?
I stole one of @sunDOG s covers a couple of months ago, except he was working on the live version of a Portishead song while I was working on the studio version.
It’s totally cool, Duncan and myself have dropped three or four of the same. Not this close in time haha, but we’ve done the same songs. I see nothing wrong with that and I know you don’t either. It just shows we all have great tastes in music!
To be fair, one of the great things about this thread is the variety of music it throws up. I think we all inspire each other!
@TheMadBassist, I think you did a Petshop Boys one a few months ago … now on my list
@saroohoo mentioned Elastica somewhere, resulting in me covering two Elastica songs
@faydout, your cover of the Portishead song was really cool - it’s interesting to see how others approach these covers
Oh, and the cover I’m dropping tomorrow? I’m doing a cover of a cover. One of our fellow bassists dropped a cover of the original a couple of months ago, reminding me of why I had to cover the song, specifically for tomorrow’s date.
I did do a pet shop boys song, It’s A Sin. I’m looking forward to seeing your cover and the one tomorrow as well!
I started to learn Sin this morning, it has an E♭ in it. I’m refusing to down tune the bass and I don’t have a 5, so my version will sound different to yours. Will probably have a go at it over the Christmas period….
Yea I get it. I hate to downtune the bass too! I’ll do it if I absolutely have to, but try to avoid it like the plague. Thankful my band plays everything in E standard. Cool brother, can’t wait to see your cover! I’ve got my next one lined up. Probably be two weeks before I drop it though, unless I pick another one for next Friday. You never know what the next week will bring.
Working on a cover that’s in Eb and tuned down for it, on a bass with TI Jazz Flats. So slinky, so easy to play. I may never tune it back to E standard.
Yep, doing a Velvet Underground song in Eb now on flats. Can confirm. Not quite as satisfying as the drop D song I’m playing, hitting that open D. That’s a helluva thud.
Beautiful tribute @TheMadBassist
I’d love to dedicate a bass in Eb myself haha
Try " The Animal I have Become " … that tune is in Dropped C!! ( lower than low! ) CGCF
Awesome job!!
I was scrolling YT when you posted it… so I saw it show up seconds after it went up
Sinead had it rough… this Prince tune… really was made for her. She was so misunderstood.
Thanks my man! Yes sir, Sinead had a very angelic voice! This song was made for her no doubt.
