Out of curiosity, why? Drop D takes seconds

Right? Drop D you don’t even need a tuner if you got a working ear… ring that open D, drop yer E to match… :stuck_out_tongue:

Like you said, takes seconds

I had to take pretty much all day yesterday away from practicing … my hands are shot after decades of abuse… both wrists have carpal tunnel… and on bad days i can barely use my fretting hand. Just goes completely numb.

So yesterday was a youtube day. :stuck_out_tongue:

It is with great hesitation that I present the video below. This is my first cover video, 6 weeks after beginning my bass journey.

Posted not as a good version, but as a “here’s where i’m at” reference to come back to later. As others have said in their posts, as I was recording I started messing up more than normal and I could feel my limited technique falling apart. There’s some places where I have no clue what I thought I was doing–check out those some of those mangled crossings from a D to an A in the chorus where I started putting other fingers down on the still ringing A string to “help” me get to the E string. Egad!

Anyway, enjoy (or probably don’t). Youtube video on the laptop for the backing track, recorded by my phone. Bass is a Squier Sonic P into a Fender Rumble 25.

And yes, I altered the song title because my playing in this video will likely make many of you uncomfortable.

We all do it  Great song pick for yer first cover

Good job!!

( remember to be easy on yourself, if mistakes aren’t being made, then there is nothing left to learn… )

Keep at it!

Its “EADG” actually, we’re bassists :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, so my problem wasn’t my technique, I was just out of tune!

For someone 6 weeks into playing bass … I didn’t see any ‘problem’

What I saw was someone on the right track, and someone taking on one of the more scary aspects, very EARLY… self recording.

You are going to do just fine

In 6 months, or a year when you come back to this video… the improvement you are going to see, will make you burst with pride!

So I’m not sure of etiquette but I posted the video for one of the 2 songs we did Wed night in the live channel.

First time on stage. Big thanks to Josh and B2BA for getting me there. I had a blast and actually briefly cried when someone came up and asked for our band’s card afterwards.

Here it is:

Congrats @MattyD !! That first time is always the scary one!

Now that you got that over and done with… onward and upward!

Decided to slow it down after Green Day kicked my butt :stuck_out_tongue:

Here is something mellow.

Everybody Hurts - REM

( with a shameless plug for B2B in the vid description )

It’s one note, an E♭, I can either play in drop D, or go up to the first fret on the D string. I choose to get high on this song

First rule of thumb, don’t ever hold back from showing others where you’re at. It’s what builds confidence and gets you some feedback, which we all need to progress. Now, if someone delivers that feedback in a holier than thou way, then shame on them. We don’t need people like that in our lives. You did great for your first video. Obviously you know what to do to accomplish your goals, and you’ll get there, just don’t ever put that bass down brother, you keep going. Each time you attempt something new, it’s not only scary, but also very freeing, as you get stronger mentally with every new accomplishment. Proud of you brother, balls to the wall!!!
