Today, I will be ruining Baby blue by Badfinger 
You might recognise it from the Breaking Bad soundtrack. It’s not a very difficult song but it’s a real foot tapper. Special mention must go to the Jack Casady bass - once again it is has proved to be a real tone monster. Hollow basses are definitely the way forward!

Doctor and the Medics - Spirit in the Sky bass cover
A month or so ago, I posted Forever in Blue Jeans, in honour of the anniversary of my Dad’s death, four years ago. Today would have been his birthday.
My father was a non-believer, yet he chose Spirit in the Sky for his funeral. I think he liked the feel of the song, rather than finding any meaning in the lyrics. The funeral took place at the time of the Covid lockdowns, when attendee numbers were severely limited. I must admit, it felt quite odd, standing at the front, having delivered the eulogy, to then being challenged not to tap my feet and nod my head, when the song came on!
Hohner B Bass in to the Ampero, then into GarageBand. This is a very easy song to play, 12-bar rules!!

Wow, I didn’t expect to see you posting this quick. Well done! I’m not a big Pink Floyd fan, but this song always gives me goosebumps.

I do love songs like this, the bass carrying the slow tune, with such emotion in the vocals. And some strings over the top!
@Ed I think I’m the only person that HASN’T watched Breaking Bad. I have heard this song before though, it’s a good un. Nicely played, it is a good looking and sounding bass. i might have to try a hollow body.

I think this version was the first one I heard of this song, back in the day when we frequented a rock/punk/goth club in sunny Dudley. One of those ‘sticky carpet clubs’ we all love.

Yeah, I knew there was a chance that one of y’all would see something and go “hey, you might have an easier time with $THING if you tried $TIP instead”. But no one here would be all “you suck! Sell your bass and never come back!”
I kind of wanted to get the first one out of the way. I was going to do it next week when I have the week off, but while I was practicing yesterday I said “screw it, it isn’t like I’m going to be that much better 5 days from now!”.
This was take 4. First one was probably the best, but my phone was too far away from anything to be audible. Second take was partial just to make sure you could hear stuff. Take 3 I messed up almost immediately so I stopped after about 30 seconds. And take 4 is above. Again, knowing it wasn’t going to get any better if I kept pounding on it last night, I went with it.

It really is! I am patiently waiting for my band to get ready for live shows. We just added a keyboard player and trying to get him up to speed. Next year I’ll be back onstage after a long hiatus. Exciting!

This was a fun one, not my usual song taste and the lyrics are quite political but I love the chorus and bass line throughout.

Breaking bad was ok, but I’d only recommend the first couple of series - it kind of died off toward the end…
