I’ve listened to Doolittle for most of my life and still called them the Pixies when I covered “here comes your man”. THE SHAME

Doolittle is still my favorite Pixies album. Earlier stuff is great but as a complete album Doolittle is really hard to beat.

Yeah! That’s a great aspect of a lot of the bass in post-punk/goth/etc songs from that era. Early Cocteau Twins comes to mind too. @Paul_9207 is really nailing Simon Gallup there.
Disintegration (also by The Cure) also has a really, really hypnotic bassline, really the core of the song, and fun to play.

The Rick James song, Super Freak has a fantastic bass line that was sampled for MC Hammer’s song U Can’t Touch This. The song was also recently covered by Duran Duran in their song Super Lonely Freak, which is a mash-up of Lonely In Your Nightmare & Super Freak itself.
To be honest, I’m not a great fan of the lyrics - I feel they are bordering on misogynistic and are definitely of their time (1981) - however, the groove is fantastic. While the main riff is repetitive, it takes concentration to keep time and make sure the notes are clean. That’s the reason I’m not bouncing around and not smiling

Wow, there are really many new covers coming here these days! Pretty sure this is going to be a record year on @terb’s statistics. Great work, everyone! I hope more people will also try to finish the 50 Songs Challenge . Pretty sure there’s a nice, shining badge that @JoshFossgreen gives for doing that, and I think there’s only one @dlamson13 out of over 22,000 forum users who has gotten that badge.
