Post your covers! (2024)

Oh maaan, I’m going to have to record The Supremes version now!!

AND the wonderful Gloria Jones. Right, these two songs are now in the list.

Actually, the wonderful thing about the bass is that even though their versions are in different keys, I can still play them!! In fact, I just have!! :metal:

Happy Valentines Day

I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out. Recording drums is very challenging. This is probably the best sound I’ve gotten out of them so far.

The Cure - Lovesong

been playing since March 2020, started bassbuzz January 2021
Original drums and bass removed with Moises.

Awesome @Paul_9207 ! As the video was getting started and starting to pan, I was wondering to myself who you got to play drums.

Great playing (on both instruments) and fantastic videography!

This is cool in so many ways, nicely done Paul

Thank you!

The only drummer I can really count on right now :joy:
and thank you!

Thanks Dan!

I recorded each part in one take while my littlest son was at school. Then I’ve spent all day on and off editing it.

Yeah I can’t imagine getting the miking right.

One option you might be interested in that even pros are using now is drum trigger software; it retains your timing and articulation but replaces the sound with perfectly miked drum samples. Takes the miking out of the equation and also lets you be versatile with kits, but retains your actual playing.

Paul are you using a mixer or sending each mike to the DAW? When I get back from vacation I am going to try using a mixer…tune them - set them up and forget…lol

I am a bit of a purist, but I might check this out. It is such pain.

For the bass I’m using a two channel M-audio interface and I mic my cab and also DI my bass.

For the drums I have a four channel interface. The Behringer U-Phoria UMC404HD. And with that I mic the bass drum, the top of the snare and I have two overhead mics. If you have a two channel interface you could mic the bass drum and have a room mic. One channel and then you just put the mic somewhere that will capture the sound of the whole kit.

If you use a mixer then you just have to do a bunch of sound checks to make sure your levels are where you want them before you record. It’s nice to have the freedom to mix the bass and snare separately with the audio interface.

Valentine’s Day is about over but I wanted to share the song I did for it. This was the song that made me a fan of Deftones. Also I was gifted a Spector for Christmas and I wanted to share how it sounds. Really growly and I love it

Deftones - Sextape

One of my favorite deftones tracks, played very well! Funny too cause this one was coming up on my list of songs to cover very soon! Great job

Very cool cover - it made me want to listen to my Deftones tracks again.
And I really like the “introverted” approach!!!

PS What bass is that? I dig the “thumpy” sound!!!

Edit PPS: I have found about five different Guitar Pro files for “Sextape” - all with different tunings. I was hoping for Drop D. What tuning did you use?

Same here, I get real shy when I turn it on. I learned that if I play for a longer time, maybe even two takes in one shot, it helps get into it.

Maybe we’re all a little shy, we bassists? :joy:

Was playing around with Helix Native last night and was pleased to discover that they have a doubler block. Probably not as feature-rich as the dedicated plugin, but nice to be able to do all kinds of neat doubling, routing, panning directly within Native using a single bass track. Thought it was pretty cool.

At first I thought, “Cool he’s jammin’ with his brother.” Ha ha Nice playing and nice playing. And good camera work too.

Hey @BumbleJazz really nice cover!
I’m also intrigued by your DAW setup. Is it Reaper? It looks like you have the backing track, two tracks panned L and R nested under a single track (the bass?), and another two tracks nested under another, making something like seven tracks. What is this wizardry? Is it the secret behind your thick bass tone?
