Soft Cell - Where Did Our Love Go : 1981 (by The Supremes : 1964)
It seems there was a special love for the 80’s lately ^^ Exactly to my liking, I might add.
Very nice covers, Messieurs ! I spent a good time listening to all of you while working. Ha, I don´t need spotify anymore. Bassbuzz covers got me covered ^^
@Paul_9207 : The Breeders - Cannonball, souvenirs, souvenirs ! Really good to listen to your performance with headphones, I was totally immersed. Nice playing ! @BumbleJazz : Deftones - Sextape, your bass sounds fantastic. Plus, this was an excellent cover. Nicely done ! Note : your pinky is about the size of my major. But I’m still more envious of your bass tone ^^
I just picked up a kit that I wanna learn on and do exactly what you just done!! You were so damn comfortable and at home behind your kit…. Still a bit apprehensive with bass though - even my wife recognized it - you kept looking at your hands…. But, you killed it on both ends as far as I’m concerned….
So, did you do the main video recording when you recorded the percussion?? Did you green screen the bass recording and mix into the drum recording??? So many questions…. What you’re doing here is exactly what I’m working to move to…… Damn man,…. This is so damn cool….
I have two drummers from two different groups that I play with but neither are “totally” dependable…… Figured the only dependable drummer I could have would be me…… Still taking lessons though….
Thanks Lanny! I’d really prefer to just be in a band, but since I don’t have one this will have to do for now.
So, to get the split screen effect you have to set up a camera in a spot that will capture both areas you will be playing in at the same time. You also need to make sure that when you are recording the bass part that you don’t get in front of the drum kit.
Once you get your camera set up gently press record and do your bass part, gently stop the recording (remote controls work well here). Gently press record when you are ready for the drum part. make sure you don’t bump the camera at all during this time.
Then you overlap them both and do a green screen split. you will have to adjust the colors a little because the green screen messes with any blue or green you have in your room.
It takes a little practice, but once you get it done it’s pretty cool.
Good luck! Drums are fun man.
Even more simple (but not supported anymore) is: Windows Movie Maker 2012
Free, great and very complex is DaVinci Resolve. Even I find it complicated and I work with video daily!
Paid there are many options, from Adobe Premiere or Final Cut to Pinnacle (which I use). Even PowerDirector or Corel VideoStudio is ok.
If you only plan crossfades, hard cuts, changing/synching the audio track and maybe put an overlay on it - all these products work perfectly.
Go for free and simple, if you don’t want to bother with complex stuff! If you notice that you cannot do everything you want with the free software, you will have enough experience to decide on something “proper”…
I think this one is pretty darn good.
As the bassline is so so so recognizable, being spot spot on with timing is key.
I did hear some off-timing blips in the beginning but you seemed to lock in after a bit.
Tone to me is a bit aggressive for the tune but overall sounded great.
Thanks Chris! I use DaVinci Resolve now, but I was just curious as to what others are using. I wish I had more time to play with Resolve and open up some more options with it.
If you are frustrated with DaVinci resolve - I get it!
It is really great, but in terms of usability it is hell, especially if you don’t use it daily. For the covers I see here, a much simpler software is enough…
Finally getting around to watching through posts from the last month or so, prepare for a long post!
@sunDOG - Dude! You have been on fire dropping posts in this thread! I’ll try to sum up all my thoughts quickly. I agree with others that the soft cel filter is very fitting. Many of these songs aren’t well known by me, but I know the groups. You’re definitely digging out some diamonds with your choices. I think my favorite so far has to be the Cult.
@TheMadBassist - You’ve also been on fire dropping videos! Love that RATM action! I’ll be working on Testify very soon That Jackson bass sounds THICK! It did get a little wubby on my speaker at times but I didn’t mind!
Then you go and drop some Fray…what a song. I can’t say I have listened to it anytime recently but it had heavy rotation in my playlist at one time. Really enjoyed your playing there as well.
Loved the trippy vibes on She Sells Sanctuary, one of the best ‘bring the energy’ songs in my opinion!
I didn’t know Smoky Mountain Rain but it sounds like a super fun song! Well played dude! I was gonna say it has a big 70s feel but you listed 1980! Close enough I guess.
@Ant - Heck yeah! Some Heavy Metal! I have very fond memories of watching that film. You looked very relaxed during this cover, very well done man. Also a nice choice playing by the bridge for that extra treble.
@fennario - Very chill John Mayer song , and I loved your playing on it. Great vibes man!
Geez, I’m still 500+ posts behind so I’m gonna hit send on this post and come back later to dive in!
Right, it’s Friday evening here in Europe, time to get the party going with this 80s (yes, it was still the 80s ) classic!
Black Box - Ride on Time
The challenge for this song was keeping the riff going for nearly 5 minutes. There is a subtle change between the ends of bars 1 and 3, with bars 1 to 4 repeated throughout the song. You’ve got to keep on top of it, plus remember where the rests are…
