Great job my friend! You beat me to it haha
Great choice! Jimmie Vaughan is the man, nicely done.
Three in one post! Well played, Travis! I particularly liked the ‘walking on stage’ bit on Future Days!
Well played, @AndreaJayne. Fretless basses are cool, aren’t they?
Great tone, @faydout. I also love the effect you have on the video !
More Linkin Park! Well done, @AndreaJayne!
Well played, @Vader. Nice tone!!
Elvis Presley - Hound Dog
Sometimes you just need to take things right back, in this case, to 1956! I’ve also been a bit stressed over the past couple of weeks (work and sh!t), so need simple, and there’s not much simpler than a 12-bar in C.
Bass backed off in the mix, I was trying to emulate the original 50s recording, where the bass isn’t trying to dominate things. I also noted that in the original, the bass is quite staccato, and just three notes per bar, so this is what I played … mostly. Oh, I also thought the Squier CV 50s P was appropriate . Even my thumb rest on the bass is vintage correct … I have stuck a Bic biro outer casing to it, and Bic biros were actually released in 1950
Squier CV 50s P-bass, through the Ampero, into GarageBand
Best way to focus your mind and forget about your problems (as I typed this, I realised I was in danger of quoting ‘The Bear Necessities’ ) I hope things improve for you soon.
I love that you’ve tried to stay in the 50’s vibe with the small details
Thank you, there is bound to be some cross over as we both work through our favourite LP’s songs
The boy from Tupelo…nice! I gotta tell you, after seeing dozens of your covers, I was thinking the whole time that Duncan its exercising some serious restraint during this song because you know that you wanted to add in slides all over that song and didn’t. But, lo and behold, at the end of the song you just couldn’t take it anymore and had to add a slide!
So I’m not sure this really belongs here, but I did not see a dedicated thread for concerts. This is the school band which I’m playing in, we had another concert last Saturday and our guitarist set up some cameras and sound gear. We are playing four songs here, on a tiny, tiny stage.
I think sticking a Bic biro to the bass as a thumb rest is the the most inspired
Ain’t this the truth . And yes, I snuck a sneaky one in at the end! This really was an exercise in restraint, which was actually quite hard!! In all seriousness, a colleague played be his version of the bass line to Bad Moon Rising the other day. When I play that song, I tend to add fills that are simply not there in the original. My colleague is a far better bassist than me and was walking all over the neck. It completely changed the song…I was left thinking that there’s a fine line between embellishing a line and overplaying.
Don’t worry about it Nebel, @sunDOG and @Paul_9207 post covers with their bands here too
Well played, I liked the song choices
I would class bands playing covers as “full covers”, and are perfectly legitimate! As @AndreaJayne said, I’ve posted them!
Well played, @Nebel!!
I completed Lesson 4 of Module 13 today, which uses the verse of this song as an exercise. And after the lesson I just … kept going. It didn’t take long to fully memorize the song, so I figured I’d make a video out of it.
The glitches in the video are me, not you. Not sure what my phone did during the recording, but I didn’t notice until way too late.
The Cardigans - Lovefool
Great job, and well done for progressing with the course
I’ve dropped three Linkin Park covers on YT, so it was time for more Garbage!
Milk - Garbage
Very nice Nebel! Quite a cozy venue eh? Congrats to all the members.
Very smooth Andrea!
That was awesome!!!
Hey great work @Nebel - Better than a few bands I’ve seen!
Out of interest, what amp are you using?
I honestly don’t remember, which one it was, it was just the house amp, it was very rushed; plug in and play, so did not even have my zoom effect pedal connected.
But thanks for the kind words
Well it still sounded pretty damn good!
I need to find people to play with …
