In the interests of U.S/European relations, (not that we are in Europe anymore) How can I post one without the other?
Amerika - Rammstein
Deutschland - Rammstein
It’s not a competition, please watch both
Great job, Nebel! What a fantastic experience…really psyched for you. I like the bass line in that first song. Enjoy every moment!
Well done, Craywolf! It’s great that you’re diving into the “Post your covers!” thread while still finishing the course!
I like that song…very cool mellow song. Well played!
I don’t think I’ve heard this song since the early 80’s. Well played…cool bass line!
Deutschland is telling me the video is not available.
Thanks brother. I really enjoyed covering this one!! Guns N Roses did a cool version, as well as Britny Fox. I’ve always liked it and figured it was time to give it a go. Thanks for the support!
Thank you! I used to play back in high school, which was like 25 years ago now (ugh). I’m extremely happy to be able to play along with songs I like again.
That’s strange, there are no visibility restrictions. Thanks for trying anyway!
Great time, @CrayWolf!
Well played @AndreaJayne!
Well played, Travis!!
I find Rammstein challenging, but well played, @AndreaJayne!
PJ Harvey - Down By The Water
There was a separate thread about this song and that tone! This is my go at it… To get there, I actually played the line three separate times,
- An underlining clean bass line that mirrors the dominant sound you hear
- A doubled staccato line, that provides some subtle movement
- That line, heavily distorted, with a scooped EQ
I think it worked out quite well… . Thoughts?
Ibanez EHB1000S into GarageBand, via the Hotone Ampero
Thank you my brother!
It’s fine. They are not to everyone’s taste, so I appreciate you watching anyway
Mix turned out great! I like those abrupt notes in the middle. Yeah, the work you put into the 3 tracks was worth it.
Waylon Jennings - This Time
From the 1974 album This Time produced by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.
Oh oh oh - massive Nazareth fan here @TheMadBassist ! I saw them a couple of years back and they are still rocking very hard
Excellent job with the cover! By an amazing coincidence I was mulling over the possibility of a cover myself and I think this is a sign it must be done
When one decides to record a cover, it could be said that one enters into a relationship with the song. Like all relationships, a cover is born in a hot flash of passion, with the player wanting to spend every minute of the day playing the song. Later, as the notes become more familiar, the passion cools and the partnership becomes more mundane. Finally, it can become a pain in the neck ,as one has to drag oneself to the stool and try to perfect a complicated solo section.
Such was my time with Journey to the Centre of the Mind by the Amboy Dukes. We first met through the youtube algorithm as the Ramones cover. It was love at first sight! Most of all, I loved her complexity. She was so unlike the Status Quo tracks I’d been plodding through for the last few weeks. However this complexity soon became an issue, as I couldn’t find any tabs and Transcribe! was not helping.
Fortunately I discovered a cover on the peterg.bassist channel and Peter was able to provide a transcription - which I duly massacred with the bunches of bananas I have for fingers. Still, I would recommend you visit his channel for a better version of the song (or many others)!
Anyway after much practice I thought to myself “Ed, it is time to do your business or get off the potty”. And so I present Journey to the Centre of the Mind by The Amboy Dukes. It is a dumbed-down version of the original (which I think is still a bit above my level) but I think I’ve got the main parts
Weapon of choice Rickenbacker (of course) with some compression from the Line 6 POD Express. I also put the vintage setting on the Rick which I’m starting to warm to …
Really well played, Ed! Super active bass line that took you all over the neck. I like the camera angle showing off that extremely cool Rickenbacker headstock.
