Post your covers! (2025)

@JerryP this tune is just so uplifting, it’s got me grinning! Think I need to save it to put it on when I’m feeling blue  Nice playing :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m assuming “dep” is the same as “sub”, but never heard this term outside of your usage over the last couple days. Is “dep” short for something?

It’s short for “deputy” and indeed means a stand-in

Exactly this. The usual bassist in this band, actually a work colleague, is playing guitar for this open mic, and I’ll be standing in for him covering the low end.

My band is playing directly after his, so I’ll get to play about 40 minutes in total, and somewhere between 8 and 10 songs. I need to learn 6 for my colleagues band, from which they will select 4 to 5. For my band, we also need to select 4 to 5 songs.

I’ve learnt the easy songs. Now working on a couple of harder ones . Dance the Night was on his list (#7), but thy canned it. It was the easiest of the lot, so I was a bit disappointed

I’m back with a new cover!
I’ve been practicing this for a while and just getting around to recording tonight. I blew out 3 songs tonight. This was the first. I’ll get around to editing the other 2 later.

I present to you, my rendition of Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits.

Thanks all, I’m re-listening and the bass sounds lower than when I pieced it together. Do you think it’s too quiet?

Edit: Also, It’s a much simplified version that what John Illsley played. I wonder if a transcribed tab would benefit anyone…
Trying the Songsterr AI to tab tool to see how it performs with my rendition.

Songsterr did a pretty decent job. I had to do some corrections and it’s still a little messy but the changes are there and easy to follow.

Dan! That was freaking amazing! Absolutely loved everything about that cover!

Thanks Andrea, its a bit of an ABB deep cut!

Way to go with the twin cover! The chords sounded great and the song has an excellent build.

P.S. a guy from a band no one listens to considers you a real musician now since you don’t just play bass

Thanks @saroohoo! It’s a lot of fun to play.

Thanks a lot @fennario! I try to cover a variety of music but I feel most in my element playing groove heavy blues rock stuff like this, glad you enjoyed!

I probably would’ve mixed the bass a little higher, but I tend to like bass-forward mixes. Great job with the cover!
