Post your covers! (2025)

Hello everybody it’s been a while. Been trying to level up by learning harder but tastier bass songs and I think this may be at the moment in my top 3 songs I’ve learned this year. This was pretty challenging because the bass rhythm before the solo and during the solo was really tricky to get but I think it leveled me up a bit and slides are always a bonus.

Thanks @AndreaJayne, @Rob5589, Yep, it was a colleague that turned me on to this version of the song. The guitarist in my band suggested that we look at Kids in America, however, we do not have keys, or a second guitar, meaning using the original as the basis wouldn’t really work. The Billie Joe version is a completely different proposition. It is perfectly playable with just a guitar, drums and a bass. What we will do is play in the original key though (Bm, vs the Billie Joe G♭).

Thanks, Travis!!

Great cover of a great cover of a great song  I really like all versions :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: l’m instantly transported to Clueless when I hear this.

Oof that sounds great :ok_hand: I should take the time to listen to more Thornhill, I enjoy your covers.

Nicely done, I’m always a fan of 80s sounds

“Surfin’” by Ernest Ranglin is a smooth, jazz-infused reggae instrumental from his 1996 album Below the Bassline, showcasing his masterful guitar work and Caribbean roots. Really just enjoyed laying the bass for the laid-back surf vibes of Ranglin’s melodic phrasing. This one of those songs when the moods strikes you can just play.

Enjoyed that one, BassyBunch! I think you needed to put the bass higher in the mix, but I can hear your playing on my good headphones and it sounds really good.

Nice job, MattyD! The tone is different than the original (if memory serves me well) but it works. Enjoyed it!

You start with the church version and then you’re on your way towards the Dropkick Murphy version! Well done!

Sounds great (would never know this was a bass cover if it came on my pandora station)! Cool song to cover.

Great cover, Travis!

Awesome playing! The tone is nice and your technique is really good.

Nice job, Travis! I like those little walk-ups in that bass line.

Yeah, the guitar is nice in that song…way to hold down the bass line…cool song. Well played!

Awesome, Dan! Great Ozzy tribute….as I wrote on your YT page, that song looked like a lot of fun to play with that big tempo change, those high bends and the vibrato. Great job, dude.

Green Day - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) bass cover

This cover was about coaxing the sounds of a cello from a bass guitar. I did this using the ‘swell’ effect on my Ampero, which basically cuts the initial attack of a note. The resulting ‘swell’ somewhat emulating the sound of a bowed string. I played the line four times, twice in a low register and twice an octave above.

Given that I’m now pretending to be orchestral, I thought it appropriate to dress the part!

Dingwall Combustion, via the Ampero, into GarageBand.
