I haven’t done a Cure song in a few months and was already playing with the patch I had created in my Boss pedal, so I picked up an easy one last night to try it all out with. One thing led to another and just recorded the dang thing. This is done on my BB734 with an analog comp and reverb pedal into the SGT with the preamp and Grit turned off.
Thank you, I’m just really starting to dig into my Xmas present and figure out what I can do with it, so it was a little over the top with the flanger and chorus. I was just having a little fun with them. The fuzz with with the flange and chorus sounded awesome but really didn’t fit the song.
The BB is awesome. Every single thing sounds good on it. If I could only keep 2, it would be my 2 BB’s (I love that red on yours). What strings are you running on it? I’ve got pressurewounds on mine, gives a nice blend of punchy mids and a bit of the thump you expect from flats.
Shoulda done the sunglasses, I thought they were a little over the top. We coulda been twinsies.
I wish I knew! Random roundwounds that came with it. Not D’Addarios. Gold ball-ends. Feels and sounds pretty good, though, I may just play these for a while before putting a set of Elixirs on, or trying out the TI jazz rounds. I like the idea of the larger size strings that @MikeC had.
Well played! It’s interesting to see other’s interpretation of a song. I did this one back in November. I’ve just listen back to back and I played it slightly differently - it’s cool!
Ha! I like this one @fennario! You kind’a wanna get stoned around a camp fire … [I should point out that I neither drink alcohol, or smoke any substance )
Time for some more Sinéad O’Connor, this time the haunting Jackie. I was absolutely blown away the first time I heard this track, Sinéad’s voice is simply incredible.
For this cover, I removed any and all instrumentation and just played the bass. There are two bass tracks, played with a pick for the attack, one overdriven and the second clean, to give some depth. The baseline itself is super simple, and yes, I’m basically using the bass as a rhythm guitar. The challenge was actually achieving an even tone, while lightly palm muting across the Dingwall’s staggered bridge.

Dingwall Combustion into the Hotone Ampero, then on into GarageBand.
Watch out for the special guest appearance in the video
Oh, man…that sounded haunting (in an overwhelmingly positive way)! Had to go to listen to the original to know exactly what you did and gotta say you made some great choices. I think Sinead would love this version.
Verrrrrrry cool song (that I’ve never heard before). Love those high note sequences (like at 2:42). Very well played and thanks for introducing me to some new music.
Sweet tone, faydout. That sounded great. Had to look up what album that was off of. Saw the Cure with Love & Rockets and the Pixies back in the high school on the Disintegration tour. And then later at a smaller venue in Rhode Island for the Curiosa festival. Their bassist I remember being full of energy in some of their more upbeat songs.
The crazy thing about Robert Smith is that he has such a supportive family and he seems to love them dearly. This song was written after his grandparents passed away. I don’t always hear or understand words in a song and it took me years to realize the first lines in the song are “two pale figures ache in silence/ timeless in the quiet ground” and he’s wailing with heartache. This song has so much emotion and sadness in it.
