I really enjoyed that cover @JerryP ! (And your bass playing video was great too.) I love me some Herb Alpert.
Man that was great @faydout ! I wasn’t familiar with that song so in hearing it for the first time through your performance, I have to agree wholeheartedly with @JohnF here. Yours is the definitive version as far as I’m concerned.
Sounded great with you playing them!
Sounded great to me, nice playing. Also, assuming @terb is still pulling metrics from these threads, it makes it a whole lot easier on him if you clearly note “Artist - Song” somewhere in your post. You know, listening to your cover again and this is another one where I wouldn’t have known it was a cover. Great job on it!
My grandfather on my mother’s side once hit Gary with his car and he rolled over the hood. No serious injuries, thank goodness LOL!!! I figured I’d pull this one out of the mothballs and see if anyone remembers it…
Gary Lewis & the Playboys - Count Me In (1965) bass cover/playthrough
Likely. I was playing around a while back with doing it in PowerShell. It worked, but wasn’t exactly elegant. And then there was the problem of links posted in the thread which weren’t actually covers. I wound up getting too busy with real work and dropped it. AI might do a better job of differentiating those.
And hat’s off to @terb for maintaining it as long as you did, sir!
Well played, @JustinAndSheba! I still love the fact that Sheba gets in on the act!!
I did ask ChatGPT is it could review the entire thread and total the covers by user name. It got stuck, so I gave up. Perhaps someone could write a command that would make it do this…!!
Thank you, Duncan. That’s a Reverend Mk I Wattplower. It’s Mike Watt’s signature bass (from Minutemen). It’s a short scale P bass and wow does it bring the thunder. @TheMaartian has the Mk II that has a humbucker at the neck like a thunderbird and a third splitcoil pickup.
You mentioned somewhere along the line that you record direct to your smartphone. One thing you might want to consider to improve the audio quality vs the phone’s own mic is a Rode mic designed for smartphones. They have one specifically for iPhones, if that’s what you have. These links are to the French site because that’s where I am. I’ve used one for years. Excellent audio quality.
That would entail playing and singing at same time!!! I have enough trouble with just the playing bit!! . In all seriousness, I think this is something we need to explore. our drummer did backing on our version of Get Back, but I think we all need to consider how we do this…
Yes, this recording was actually three iPhones, one left, one right and one from the video (so middle). I then combined the audios in GarageBand. The microphone you mention looks interesting. £75 in the Uk…
That’s really interesting, @Whying_Dutchman…!! I’m kind’a tempted, although I have no idea what it uses 32 bit float actually means
I’ll post a couple more from this gig on Saturday, then that is it (although we did play a lot more songs), and I’ll get back to the more usual cover videos
