Post your covers! (2025)

Friends, in these days of social media, the term ‘genius’ gets thrown around pretty loosely. However, few people deserve the honour more than the legendary John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. I have actually come to Zeppelin quite late in life, being more of a Sabbath fan in general and not really too sure about ‘squeezing my lemons’, but with the wisdom born of old age I can now appreciate the monolithic greatness of the first four Zeppelin albums

Like Entwhistle, Jones provided an anchor for the band and the heart (and loins) of their biggest riffs, as well as some tasty melodic work. I am hoping some of this will run off on me over the next month

So to kick off, I present Communication breakdown - this is way simpler than most Zeppelin but the choruses took a bit of practice. I’m using the Jack Casady with the trusty Line6 POD. I’ve got the varitone on the bass turned to 250 which is kind of precisiony.

So Communication Breakdown - Led Zeppelin

Thanks Andrea! I’d totally recommend these (semi) hollow basses - for me it came down to a choice between the Jack Casady, the Guild Starfire and the Hofner Verythin. There was also the Bendey Harlon HB-60 but nah… In the end the Jack Casady won out, mainly because I had the chance to play it in the store. Still I’d totally recommend trying any of these apart from the Harley if you’re GASing

Sounds awesome, Ed! You had me at “HHHHHEEEEEYYYYYY"!”

That part around 1:48 - 2:00 was nice. The Jack Casaday sounds great.

It’s hard to keep from dancing with a song like this. That was a lot of fun to listen to. Nice one Dan!

Bass is on back burner for a couple months while I explore guitar and have been playing sax more. And there’s a banjo in there too. But more covers soon!

Hey all, sorry I’m not able to go through all the covers I’ve missed. I’ve seen a few on YT, but even that has been a low priority lately.
Last cover on the BEADy bass before I sell it. One of Linkin Park’s Lost Demos.

Hopefully I can get my mojo back soon and get playing. Too much going on at the moment though :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Queens of the Stone Age - If I Had A Tail

Tried to find something with a smarmy sexy-menacing bassline and this QotSA tune kind of takes the cake when it comes to this particular genre. Not that wildly difficult to play or produce. I actually used a guitar amp sim in GR7 - the “Citrus” (betcha can’t guess what that’s going for) and a Tube Skreamer Deluxe (also simmed in GR7). Some EQ and a lil compression and here we are. Really fun to play, really fun to create the video here too. Some of my previous efforts have been a bit “above-and-beyond” in ways that took the enjoyment and spontaneity out of it, so I’m working to get back to injecting some “fun” into these covers

Great job! Haven’t heard that song in years, but very apropos as I’m going to my 40th high school reunion this weekend (this song was played a lot back then).
