Great cover! @dlamson13 It sounds like it’s fun to play!

Well played @AndreaJayne ! I missed your videos. No stress, take your time. We all have times when there’s too much going on and it’s hard to find energy for everything. Take care :purple_heart:

@Vader Cool cover!

@BassyBunch Very cool bass line! I didn’t know this song. I like it! Well played!

@JustinAndSheba Great cover! Sheba appreciates good music!

@JerryP Good choice of music and very well played! I once added this to my list of songs I would like to play. I’ll eventually get to it (parts of it look rather difficult) . I have the tendency to start too many things and maybe I need to practice and learn to play some of the other songs better first.

@JohnF Nicely played! :clap:

@sunDOG Well played! Cool bass line and that awesome bass again!

@Ant Well played! So nice that you added the transcription to the video. It’s very helpful for those like me, who need to see the tabs and sheet music (it’s hard to me to learn a song just by looking at someone playing).

Thanks @JerryP ! I was pleased with how that came out!

When you have a shiny new bass hammer, every song is a nail! Thanks @Ed !

Thanks @Rob5589 , appreciate it!

Thanks @RBC64 , I agree but of course I’m biased!

Thanks @sunDOG ! The fretless really made it IMHO

Thanks all for the support and encouragement!

As you should be brother. Really that was nice. I have a cheap Rogue fretless that with new strings and a setup sounds pretty good, now you got me wanting a GOOD fretless, thanks a lot🤣

Thank you Andrea!
If you do decide to try it, I suggest you break it up into sections. The walking bass line in bars 21-53 (according to my tab) has no repetative phrases. It was a challenge and a lot of fun as well.

Nice playing overall, love the tone.

I think some articulation and timing issues - actually a pretty tough song as the ‘groove’ is so prounounced throughout the entire band, leaves a lot of open space for hearing timing glitches.

Welcome to the world of KISS - almost all their songs are tuned 1/2 step down. Adds something cool. Throw a few on your pile when done with the Zep thing.

Overall absolutely amazing how well you are playing and also looking so relaxed.

It’s time for a band for you dude.

Just great, and the relaxed playing is pro level cool.

Fantastic playing esp on fretless, however not digging the tone or how high in the mix you are. A bit too much top end to sit well in the mix as well.

Thanks for the constructive feedback @John_E !

Thanks man

Oh - didn’t know that. Maybe Paul Stanley’s range is a bit lower ?

You know what - a Kiss month is a definite possibility. I’m getting into the idea of doing month-long “sprints” where I focus on one thing (e.g. a group, a style, type of playing etc) - it makes you really dig deep in the subject matter…

I’m looking - I’ve started putting notes on my instagram stories and I’m figuring out how to spread the net wider. I don’t want to end up playing with a bunch of douchebags though…

BANTAM – G.GOERE

My first cover in quite some time.

This summer I often played bass in the park around the corner and – apart from funny squirrels and nosy kids (“What are you doing?”) – I met a strange girl with a punky attitude and we became good friends.
She happens to make music, and even forced me listen to her first published song.
Although I am not a fan of Deutsch Rap - fish f#ck in it – I find this song is great on many levels, so I decided to “destroy” it with a badly played & heavily distorted bass line. The original song has a bubbling synth, so I just improvised a little to make it mine.
Though my bass line is quite simple, I found it hard to play precisely to the electronic beats … and to use some hard muting here & there to make the bass line more interesting and not wobbly all the time.
Luckily the song is strong enough to survive my futile attack, and I thoroughly enjoyed noodling to it

This cover was played on Ronin, my dirty & dented park bass, that was modded to a triple humbucker version. Love it!
All Humbuckers are set to dual coil and 100% volume, and I experimented a lot with hand positions. In the end I decided to play over the middle humbucker as it has some heavy punch and is deep and nasty enough to annoy my poor neighbours.
Playing over the neck humbucker is deep but a little fuzzy, so this was no option. Playing over the bridge pickup sounded precise but a little thin. So, I will never play over the bridge pickup again!
Oh, and I uses mainly one-finger-plucking, to make the bass line as percussive as I could. It looks strange on the video

In terms of effects I just went wild to make it sound dirty. I really wanted to fight and destroy the synth on the track, but preserve the character of the vocals.
Now I’m quite happy with the tone … and my rock’n roll-minded girlfriend dances to it, so: mission accomplished!

EDIT Lyrics translated with AI in case you don’t understand non-English

Phew, slow down!
Rolling Bantams cigarettes
Rolling stuff is really expensive, that’s what I need!
Have to save money wherever I can, honestly no fun!
That’s why I roll with Bantams papers!
Breathe in deeply and slowly!
Inhale nicotine with a Bantam!
Stand on the corner, smoke with a Bantam!
I’d rather have Gizeh papers!
That’s the stuff I like best!
But I’m broke and I’ll stick with Bantam!
Some day I’ll have dough, then it’ll be over!

Psychologically unstable, Bantams stable!
Screw everything, I want to smoke!
Screw everything, give up! Smoking
Others take drugs or are drinking
I’d rather smoke
Everything’s too much, go to the corner, smoke
Totally fucked up, have to compensate
I’m inhaling a fog

Phew, slow down
Rolling Bantams
Rolling equipment is really expensive, that’s what I need
Have to save where I can, honestly no fun
That’s why I roll with Bantams papers
Breathing in deeply and slowly
Inhaling nicotine with a Bantam
Standing on the corner, smoking with a Bantam
Habibis and I, chronically unstable
Broke bitches, physically stable
Inhaling nicotine with a Bantam
Interested? Get in line

Phew, slow down!
Rolling Bantams cigarettes!
Rolling equipment is really expensive, that’s what I need!
Have to save money wherever I can, honestly, it’s no fun!
That’s why I roll Bantams papers!
Breathe in deeply and slowly!

I follow you on YouTube and it’s nice to start the weekend watching your latest video. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: But I found you because you posted here, otherwise maybe I wouldn’t have seen your channel. If you post here from time to time, new forum members will find your channel through this forum, so it isn’t like double posting, at least for the new people.

Speaking about new members, it is so nice to see how much new people have joined the BB course. The Introduce Yourself thread is always growing.

Wow, this was awesome! Great tone! I have no experience with fretless basses, but I’ve heard they are challenging. Well played! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: This is a great song. I don’t usually listen to Britney Spears, but she has a great voice! I like how she sings in this song.

Ronin has a great sound! The growling bass line works very well with this song. I’m not a fan of rap, but this was interesting. She has a nice voice too.

Nice to hear Ronin with the third humbucker! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :raising_hands:
