I should have said that as well, any mixing and doubletracking comments aside both the rate and quality of your covers always impress me

I like to do this. but I’ll have one that is deeper and one that is higher in tone. My logic being that if someone is watching on a TV with decent speakers and a sub they will get a nice deep bass sound and if they are watching on a phone they will be able to hear the bass still with the higher tone.

Thank you @howard! Sometimes, I feel I’ve made a rod for my own back, especially if work / home life is busy and I’m being pulled in all sorts of different directions. But, one of the upsides is exploring artistand songs. This week, I’m going from Taylor Swift to 1952/53 and Big Mama Thornton…

Big Mama Thornton - Hound Dog

This is the original of Hound Dog, recorded in 1952, but released in 1953.

Elvis’s version resulted in a number of lawsuits over publishing rights, and Big Mama Thornton would, for the rest of her life, tell how Elvis got rich and famous with “her” song. Thornton never received full credit for recording the original version of the song. She claimed she received just one royalty check for $500 from a single that spent seven weeks as number one on the 1953 Billboard R&B chart. The song was actually written by Mike Stoller and Jerry Lieber, for Big Mama.

Horner Shortie into My Focusrite Scarlett Solo, then into GarageBand. To try to get the tone of an upright on a early 50s record, I played the bass with the tone fully rolled off, muffled the strings with some makeup wipes that were in the hotel room bathroom, and then EQ’ed the treble off in garage band. I think I kind’a got there… I also pulled the bass a long way back in the mix. In the original, it’s almost audible…Thoughts?

Oh, and I’m away this week, hence my travel bass!

I should try one of TSs. My daughter’s a big Swifty. She’d dig it. She’s also the kid of mine that loves Skinny Puppy (go figure), and I’m working on one from one of their side projects that she’ll dig too.

Yep, my daughter suggests songs for me too… :slightly_smiling_face:

Someone needs to do a mashup of, say, Anti-Hero and VX Gas Attack

Hello everyone!

This time I’m doing a different kind of cover…
a Brazilian song by the great Hermeto Pascoal, who passed away this year.

He was an incredible Brazilian musician who developed the concept of “universal music” and performed all over the world.

This song is really beautiful and has a strong, memorable bass line.

Hope you enjoy it!!!

Thanks for the views and for subscribing to my channel!
