Ah dammit - sorry I’ve always got the two confused.
Still better than the old Pulp tho ![]()

Ray Charles - Hit The Road Jack
Released in 1960, Hit The Road Jack has such a simple, yet effortlessly cool, descending bass line.
I played the Squire CV 50s p-bass, with the tone rolled fully off, as I felt it the most appropriate, then further reduced the treble in GarageBand. Oh, I also did the play it twice and pan left and right thing ![]()
Really enjoyed this cover…that sounded great! I like that last 45 seconds or so…a very cool outro. Well done, dude.
Cool tune, Duncan! Well played! When I was a freshman in college, I took a music appreciation course which centered around going to 8 live performances. One of them was Ray Charles. Being young and somewhat oblivious, I had zero expectations and left that concert realizing I had just experienced something special.
very nice!
Thanks @sunDOG !
@sunDOG Thank you
I love the Ray Charles cover, well played.
Nice one, I didn’t recognise the name, but knew the tune straight away. I have a few Radiohead songs on my ‘to do’ list, you just reminded me lol.
Great job on the cover
Very nice song and cover!
Concrete Blonde - Joey
From the 1990 album Bloodletting.
Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for my family and this supporting and very awesome BassBuzz community. Peace and love to the indigenous communities around the world
.
Thank you!
I think it cuts through the mix really well even in Jazz pickup configuration (bridge + neck) and despite my rudimentary mixing skills (I used way too much gain
)
Thank you, @BackcountryBassist! It was actually my wife who suggested I do this one … zero expectations, but surprisingly fun!
Thank you, @AndreaJayne!!
I like the slightly heavier vibe of this song, @BackcountryBassist. Well played!!
Kim Wilde - Kids in America
Released in 1981, this is very much a song I remember asking my father to turn up if it ever came on the radio while in the car!
This cover was about nailing the bass line over the chorus. I can play it in the sanctuary of my home office, but I seem to mess up if I try to play it in the rehearsal studio. I have not attempted to play it on stage - clearly more practice required!!
Ibanez EHB1000S, into GarageBand via my Hotone Ampero. Bass line played twice.
Wow, that was great. Your playing and the song!
Well played Duncan, that tempo is on the cusp of being too fast for me. I have tried this song myself, but needed to slow it down a touch to practise.
Queens of the Stone Age - I Sat By The Ocean
This is a really fun, melodic bassline. I figured out how to play this by myself which was also an enjoyable process.
Such a great song, and you did great! I’m fascinated by your plucking and spare finger muting. Good job!
Thanks, I don’t know if I’m actually conciously doing it. Could you tell me where in the video I do it?
It seems like you do it a lot, unless you’re plucking with 3 fingers. I had it zoomed in on your plucking hand for most of the video
Excellent cover, but get thee to a pick, young man ! ![]()
I’m definitely not plucking with 3 fingers. Watching back now, it does look kinda strange to me. I think I’m muting with the ring finger without really thinking about it.
I think my ring finger is also involuntarily flexing when the middle finger plucks (which makes the pinky flex too).
Great cover Duncan, always liked this song myself.
