Thanks my brother! It was quite enjoyable, albeit somewhat aggravating in the mid section haha.
This is me as well though @groaner
The band agree on a new song for the set list and then I’ve got a week until next rehearsal to get the fundamentals under my fingers (chord structure, rhythm etc)
There’s no way I’m rocking up and them giving me a chord chart. It’d be ugly ![]()
Hello folks!
This is my attempt to cover The Bandit by Kings of Leon, one of the greatest bands that still stands out (imho).
(the bass is originally played with a pick)
I tried my best to keep the rhythm, playing without a click in ears. Hope you like it and comments are welcome. Cheers!
Sounding great Duncan, and the audience is dancing, so that a good sign!
Well played John, back with Mazzy again.
Top job Travis, my mind would have been wandering after half that time
Thanks for sharing, it’s a funky tune that. Also, that is a cool bass you have there!
Great job, it looks a fun song to play. I haven’t heard this one, I like it!
Thanks @AndreaJayne . Actually, it is really a fun song to play. I don’t get bored playing it over and over…
Today - Zoom the White Dolphin by Michel Legrand
Apparently Zoom the White Dolphin was a kids’ cartoon back in the 70s - I say ‘apparently’ because I’ve never seen it, but I heard the theme on the radio the other day and got to work transcribing it!
It wasn’t too difficult but there were a couple of points I fluffed on the recording. Still, as Wooten says there’s not such thing as a wrong note (or something like that) ![]()
Simple setup - just the Horner into the Line 6.
The series was remade about 10 years ago with a new theme song - and it sucks. It sounds like a bunch of accountants had a 10-minute brainstorm for the lyrics. Now interestingly, while the old theme sounds quite cheerful, the bassline is actually quite melancholy. I’m not sure that was intentional, but it really contrasts with the new version, which just sounds Disney.
Anyway Oum Le Dauphin - Michel Legrand
Great job Ed. The melody sounds familiar, although I’ve never heard of that dolphin
Pulp - Spike Island
I loved this song from the moment I heard it earlier in the year, it has a great beat to it IMO. So, I was happy to cover it. Oh, and as you can see, I found my Sony camera, so video quality is back to normal! ![]()
Very nice Andrea!
Thanks! Yeah I’m sure I’ve heard it somewhere else before. Maybe it was used in an advert or something …
Nice work! Is that from the new Suede album? It’s better than their old stuff.
Love the background too ![]()
Well played! …yeah, definitely looks like a fun song to play!
Very melodic and chill, Ed! Enjoyed it!
Cool song choice, Andrea! I like that bass line. As I wrote on your YT page, sounds a bit like Bowie to me.
Pulp ![]()
But, yes, from the new album.
Thank you, I have a bit more space to manoeuvre here ![]()
Thanks @JohnF !
Thank you! It was definitely a challenge haha ![]()
Great job Andrea! Another cool tune I had never heard.
My cover of Just (with a chorus that feels like it could be my theme song)
I really liked this bassline and I am now in the Colin Greenwood is an underrated bassist camp (and I will be learning more Radiohead)…he is really good with employing different note lengths and space and playing with a soft touch (I will need to keep working on that last one)
This one is almost like learning two songs as the last instrumental section bassline is different to the rest of the song, but it keeps it interesting (also the first song I have played with a slide where you keep pedaling with the fingers while sliding)
This song also brought me back to my P-Bass (as he usually uses one) and got me to remember why it is my no.1 bass (great neck and great sound)
The tuning is mad for this (448HZ) as they recorded the instruments then sped it up for a brighter sound (and then Thom Yorke recorded his vocals after that)
Radiohead - Just
Fantastic job on that. You nailed the timing on it. Totally agree with you about Colin. I’ve done a couple of easier Radiohead songs, I really dig his basslines. He’s great at playing to the song without trying to be flashy.
Love this, John! Well played!!
Well played, @filipponegroni. And you’re playing a Dingwall ![]()
Will played, @thinktriplets!
Love it, @Ed, well played!!
Well played, @AndreaJayne, I like a bit of Pulp!!
Well played, @g13dip. Great insight regarding the tuning!
