Ooo nice! Octaves are my mortal enemy to beat. Good job!
Thanks! Its a fun one… a bit of an endurance test on the fretting hand LOL … I was working it in slow mode for like 4 days LOL
Have a great New Year!
Happy New Year everyone! My goal this year is to continue to improve but also become more versatile and learning different genres from what I normally play. I wanted to get into learning Hip-Hop and R&B but I wanted to wait until I got a tad bit better with my 5 string and get a good sound out of my fingers for it. Also I feel like my ear has to get better as well since there is a SEVERE lack of tabs for those genres.
I thought this was… simple enough to learn by ear. I say simple enough because I am severely lacking with ear training but I think I’m getting better with every song and it helps that the bassline sounds really good to WANT to get better learning by ear. I want to look into effect pedals and stuff but that’s a whole other can of worms.
Should also warn that while there’s no yelling or screaming there is explicit language halfway through the song.
Travis Scott - Goosebumps
You have a good ear and you got groove man
Lines that aren’t that busy… can be easier to fall out of the pocket. Great job stayin in there
Nice performance Barney! Starting the new year off with some Tom Petty.
Happy New Year!
Great start to the new year Duncan!
Great job dude! Something tells me you’re a Neil Young fan haha
Sir, you a - MUSE me…….sorry, had to haha . Great job
250,000 comedians out of work… and look who is tryin to be funny!!
lol
Thanks bro… it was a fun one! ( took a bit to get the hands up to it… it doesn’t look that hard… but its an octave SLOGFEST!! )
Happy New Year!
You’re right, but I’m an unpaid comedian. I just do it for the fun haha Happy New Year bro
You guys are already making me look bad, guess I’ll have to drop my first cover this Friday. What could it be? What could it be? ………ugh, it’s a waiting game I ‘spose.
When will we get the final numbers on the most dropped covers for 24? Gonna take a stab in the dark and say Duncan won that title for last year. He dropped many a cover!
Great start to 2025…those low end E-F notes just growl…nice sound. Yeah, I think that will be a good thing that there aren’t any bass tabs in that genre so you get the work of figuring out the notes and the timing on your own. How did you decide to roll with the 5-string? Do a lot of the songs that you like get high in the register on bass? I want to give one of those beasts a go someday just to see what it feels like.
Thanks, man! Ha! My secret is out…not sure how I let that cat out of the bag…NY & Crazy Horse is my jam.
Haha it’s a mystery for sure, and hey man nothing wrong with Neil Young for sure!
Especially if yer in Canada eh.
We have 3 religions here:
- Rush
- The Tragically Hip
- Neil Young
Breaking The Habit - Linkin Park
Happy New Year all!
I thought this one rather apt given that we’ll all be giving the bad habits a rest.
Looks like everyone else has been holding out for the new thread too
Nicely done!
Yes it did. I was actually expecting five different versions of this!
I see we have dynamic camera moves now. Great sound, and video
@Barney Awesome Tom Petty song, well played. Enjoy the new toy!
Also, subbed to you on YouTube, something to remind the new members to do. It helps support our BassBuzz community
@Buzzin_Canada-John Great job john, it sounded spot on, and must be a real work out keeping that rhythm!
@JohnF You’ll get a name for yourself with all these Neil Young covers! (Rather like me and Linkin Park! )
Really well played, nice bit of rhythmic chugging. 10 minutes, fair play!
@BumbleJazz
“there is a SEVERE lack of tabs for those genres.”
Old school Hip Hop is probably easier to find. I did start learning White Lines, I do like Grandmaster Flash.
Maybe the newer stuff is less instruments and more DAW? Not really by bag, so I’m just guessing! Anyway, your bass sounded like it belonged on that, nicely done.
Thank you, it was a flash of inspiration last night to record it. I have been practising it a bit recently, but wanted it out the door today before I missed the boat
