I spent a lot of time on this one. This has been my favorite song for over 20 years. I love the simplicity of each instrument and the way they layer together. The bass line is a lot of fun to play. I hope it sounds okay and sorry, i’m singing in this one again :grimacing:

edit: This marks the fist appearance of my Squier bass VI and my G&L tribute Kiloton.

Amazing job. I’d forgotten that you picked that Kiloton up, are you running with rounds on it or did you put it in series (switch up) with the tone knob cranked? That is perfect for Simon’s sound.

Awesome job, Paul! Really enjoyed listening to that one. Makes me want to learn to play drums. Distentegration was a great album. The time you spent learning the 5 tracks was worth it…this came out really well.

Thank you! I actually haven’t changed the strings on it yet. When I do I will probably put Slinky’s on it, that’s what I have on most my basses. I don’t remember what position I had the switch in, but definitely had the tone knob cranked and some chorus. I am enjoying this bass a lot!

Thanks @JohnF ! The drums are a very fun instrument. I recommend trying them out.

I’m gonna be that guy … I was NO fan of Nirvana … I thought they were overhyped … overplayed… and everyone in the bar circuit was playing “Smell Like something out of Seattle” LOL

THIS though… was the ONE song they did that I liked …For me … this was the ONE song that HAD REAL feeling… and damn… you hit me with Sinead doing it…

‘Best of Both Worlds’ (bonus points if you know that reference)

THAT was just brilliant … subtle… but you still hit the ‘chug’ but it was passive … mellow to go with Sinead’s vocals… MAN … So impressed

Thank you for that

I didn’t know she did this one. WOW

that must have been a lot of work… editing etc

As for the playing… MAN… you play it all. Amazing job!

Hot damn Paul,…… all four of you did a most excellent job on that cover and do play quite well as a group together!!:grin:. This cover certainly brings playing with yourself to new heights!!:thinking::rofl::rofl:

I love the Disintegration album.

Fun story: shortly after I started playing bass a couple months ago I was listening to Plainsong from this album, and was hearing the bass was really just whole notes, so i looked up the tab and went to play along. I’m playing and nothing is sounding right - and that’s when I discovered it was played on a 6-string, which is most definitely not going to match up with a 4-string.

There’s 2 six string basses in Plainsong, one that Simon Gallup is playing (The Cure’s normal bassist) and another that Robert Smith is playing. Simon is playing a standard 6 string tuned to BEADGC and the one that Robert Smith is playing. That’s a bass VI, which means it has the normal EADG strings plus a higher B and E, so it’s tuned exactly like a six string guitar but an octave lower like a bass. In Paul’s video, left side silver sparkle Paul is playing a bass VI.

Well done and real nice sound…
If you’ve done this sbl course would you please post a review about it?
Lots of people talk about the next step with another course.
I get emails daily from sbl about courses but would like to hear some opinions first.
Maybe a new thread if there’s not a good thread to put it in.

Thank you so much, Jimmy!

I could give a little feedback (or later even a review) on SBL already, as I have advanced quite a bit during my first week.

But am I allowed to do this in this forum here? Can any Moderator verify this for me, please, in advance?

Also thank you too, Jerry!

Totally fine to review and talk about bass related things!
SBL lessons, whoever.
Bass learning is good learning, as far as we’re concerned.

You are not alone. I am also not a fan of Sinead O’Conner, so sorry @sunDOG  I’m sure you played it beautifully!
@Paul_9207 Top quality in all departments, well done.
@firefly That is a nice blues tune, I might have to look it up myself.
Oh, I also found where my confusion over the Radiohead bear and Muse came from. It looks like the peron who posted the Muse video uses the Radiohead bear as their YouTube Logo, so it appears next to the title on Songsterr! Case closed
