I ran both songs through Moises and disabled the bass track in Garageband. I notice it as well during the walkdowns from C4. I wonder if Moises has issues when detecting bass in higher registers?
I’ll continue to work on timing - at least until it doesn’t have to be top of mind anymore, but fluidity is a fast follow. I especially notice it on my Come as You Are cover.
This is such a great hobby! I’m having a blast learning the craft and recording videos with my son.
Edit: After working with the new Ray4HH a bit this morning, I’ve discovered that I’m out of tune on the low frets of the A string despite being in tune open and on the 12th fret. I’ll order a nut file and see if I can correct it next time I’m back here. I fly back to FL this evening.
Thanks @andrea-slnd! The bass is a bit beaten up, both from its, likely multiple previous owners, and me. I take the neck off it and put it in a suitcase!
Sounds great, @Nebel. The video is next level too!!
Well Played, @BassFusion. Not my kind’a music, but your playing is fantastic!
Well played, @THRILLHO. One note on playing with a pick, when I use one, I hold it per the picture below (stolen from the www). It feels odd a first, but securing it between the side of your index finger and thumb make it much more stable.
Gotta love a rocked up version of Gary Numan’s incredible 1979 hit, Cars. The Fear Factory version, featuring Gary Numan himself, delivers!
Playing my Dingwall D-Roc (probably my favourite bass), through the Boss ME-90B, plus a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, into GarageBand. I double tracked the bass, the first with a bit of overdrive and the second with a Boss synth effect. Towards the end of the video, you’ll hear the isolated bass.
Freakin’ tendonitis seems to have taken a step backwards!!
Felt pulled to a different flavor of bass… but… still… bass!
This one was fun. Avicii was truly a unique talent that left this world far too soon.
Again, a test of the flats on the Ray34.
Nothing too special on the EQ side, just making sure the original track’s sub-bass didn’t stick around too heavily. I used a touch of chorus to keep some shimmer in some of those whole notes towards the beginning. Ran a DB750 amp sim into a 4x10. Gentle compression to keep the thump thump going for those eighth notes in the second verse. There were definitely some challenges to keeping my own tone from drowning in the overall loudness of this track, but all in all it turned out well. Nothing too technical except a couple of those runs at the very end get a little jumpy.
For the video, I just did a lot of use of Final Cut Pro’s magnetic masking lmao - I shot this in an office at work and, well, that’s not a backdrop that has any visual appeal whatsoever. Unfortunately, one of the rolly chairs felt like sticking around in the frame, and I wasn’t about to rotoscope that out, so we’ll just have to deal
Enjoy!
I have been using that technique quite a lot, it’s how Josh taught it in the pick module. But I find that it forces my arm/wrist into a difficult angle, especially when standing, so I’ve been experimenting with using a bigger triangle pick and holding it with my thumb on one side and the index and middle on the other. I feel it gives more precision for songs like this where I need to cross strings fairly quickly.
But I’m trying both as it feels like they both have their uses.
My first Sum 41 cover. Love this band. Unfortunately, the bass knob cap fell off my bass guitar. Anyone have any idea how I can put it back? (Yamaha TRBX 304) By the way, I used a Zoom MS60B+ for the tone.
Hello everybody, hope everyone is reaching their goals. I wanted to try to structure my learning again for 2026 and do more personal challenge songs. This was pretty hard and thought about skipping learning it for something easier but the only way to get over it is through so I sucked it up and tried for a couple months since it’s the only way to be able to learn the skills necessary to play more progressive type songs.
And the bass in this song while being low, still does bass things more than just playing the guitar part an octave lower. I love a good bass slide.
It’s loud but I promise there’s a calm part in here too
Here is my cover of Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan. I just felt right to play this song first on the new pink bass. It is also one of my daughter’s favourite songs.
