Well done on both of those, @Professor! Well played!!
That was excellent, @gygedi2000!!
Well played, @BassyBunch!
Ohh, love the tone on that bass, @JustinAndSheba, and your’ playing!!
Love this song, @justarookie. A few timing issues, but overall very well played. I particularly liked the fills!
Well played, @flappdabass. A bit short - a full cover would have been great! Likes the the fact that you were really getting intoi it!
Gosh, you’re getting to use a lot of the fretboard on this sone, @JohnF! Well played!!
@JohnF Nicely played
I enjoy playing that one myself.
Adele - Rolling in the Deep
Yes, the bed is intentionally messy! This is a powerful break-up song, so I thought a messy bed symbolic of a failed relationship.
I have been away for work this week, hence the Hofner Shortie bass.
Tendonitis seems to be improving a little bit … ![]()
Hofner Shortie - Zoom B1four - Scarlett Solo - GarageBand
pefectly played sir!
Thank you! I’m a very introverted person, I’m stage fright even in front of my phone’s camera, and as a result, unfortunately, I make mistakes, no matter how well I learn to play the song. It’s lucky that I’ve never had a live concert.![]()
Hey gang, it’s been a while, but still alive and kicking. Life’s been busy, which is good, lots of playing but not much time for covers, but finally managed to do one. Recording and video was done by a friend of mine. Hope you like it!
Opeth - The Drapery Falls
Sounds great, Duncan! Happy to hear the tendonitis is improving!
Well played! Very cool video filming!
Thanks, Duncan! This was one of those instances when you’re working on something (major pentatonic scale) and take a break from that practice to cover a song from your to-do list, and, lo and behold…there it is…major pentatonic scale.
Thanks, Rob…yes, definitely a fun riff to play…especially when you get away from it in the bridge…it feels so right when you return to the main riff…like returning back to the comfort of home after being away on a trip.
Thanks, John! I appreciate the encouragement!
Hello everyone!
After many, many years… here it is!
New bass cover on the channel: “Eleven” by Virgil Donati.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks so much for watching!
Good job on this, it’s a really tough song to play and sometimes your timing slips, but other parts sound great. I know stage fright can make things difficult, but this is why recording yourself can be so rewarding, as it forces you to focus on things that you don’t think about when you’re just playing alone.
Keep it up and maybe try slowing the track down a little until you get the timing spot on.
Nirvana - Come As You Are
I did this for the 50 song challenge but I’m happy enough with it to post here too.
I’m trying to get more comfortable with a pick so I forced myself to use one here. The muting on the main riff is so much harder when you can only use your fretting hand, so it was really good practice.
Please pay no attention to my disgusting chair.
Nice alt plucking!!!
very nice!
You can try to mute with the side of your picking hand.
Thank you for the review and the good advice! ![]()
Sounds really great!
Nice groove, which is so important as it is so prominent in this song.
Great tone too
Radiohead - No Surprises
Colin Greenwood’s basslines are notoriously underrated in Radiohead, often dwarfed by all the electronic gizmos, wild guitars and whatever Thom Yorke deems “singing” that day. This one demanded a ton of restraint, with the ol’ glockenspiel even overshadowing the bass in the original.
I wanted to dial in a signal chain that lent enough presence to remind you that the bass exists on this track, without turning into [RADIOHEAD BASS BOOSTED REMIX] territory, and I think I managed to honor that here thanks to Fab Filter Saturn 2 with a touch of “old tape” saturation covering the mids.
Also, this is my first song using Ernie Ball cobalt flatwounds- managed to snag one of the 10 or so pairs that Sweetwater stocked this last go round, so that’s neat. I’ve never played flatwounds previously, but I think I’ve done fallen in love! #SoSmoove
@JohnF Very nice as always, John!
@sunDOG Cool cover of a great song, Duncan! I’m happy to hear you’re getting better from the tendonitis! That’s a nice travel bass!
@Nebel well played! Nicely filmed too!
@BassFusion So well played!
@THRILLHO Great job on this cover! This song is awesome! I didn’t notice any problems in the muting. I’ve tried playing this song, but I can’t follow the right tempo for too long.
@BassyBunch Such a nice tone! Well played!
Happy Saturday. I’m back with my son this weekend and we have 2 more covers for you. I recorded the first one on a new Sterling Ray4HH that arrived just a few minutes before I recorded it. So much for the Sweetwater 24hr waiting period! ![]()
Also new for this weekend is a Focusrite 2i2. Still working with the levels, but I definitely have more control of the input.
Finally, thanks to viewing previous covers and feedback from fellow Buzzers, I’m really trying to work on timing. I think these have improved since the last group of vids. Still not perfect, but I’m using these for feedback and documentation - not to see if I can practice until my fingers bleed just to have a perfect YouTube cover.
Nice job on both, great tone choices too, bass fits in both great.
CCR - timing superb. Overall well well done! Something sounds a bit out of tune in parts is the original bass removed or still in these songs?
Cracklin’ - tough song and is def pushing you which is GRAND! Overall great, some challenges keeping up and some note lengths sound a bit short and choppy vs.fluidly flowing through the song, but well done here too!!!
