Hey well done! Yeah metal is often a real challenge, and it will be long time before I can play anything within the genre, but this vid is one I watch for inspiration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCVam5qxy9E
That’s great! …and happy new year.
So… where’d you find it? Like, is that beauty actually for sale somewhere? I think I kinda need it.
Great sounding group SunDOG! Sorry to hear of your tendonitis though!!! I hope by now it’s much better and that you’re 100% soon.
Not a fan (usually), but maybe I have to be! ![]()
I like the bassline and think you have a good sound. It’s easy to see that you enjoy playing the song! ![]()
You could tidy up the left hand a bit. Check out the video I posted below and try it for 10 min a day for 14 days – it really helped me! ![]()
Will need to catch up on all the covers above over the next few days…
Still getting over my left wrist tendonitis, but couldn’t resist playing the (new to me) Dingwall D-Roc on a song with a super simple bass line.
The Hives - Won’t Be Long
That is some masterful chugging!
Great timing dude. Spot, spot on.
Used a backing track from Fender Studio to jam over. I hope it sounds good
Hello Friends!
My first cover for 2026, Stormy Weather by Kings of Leon, one of my favourite bands. The song is featured on their 2021 album When You See Yourself. Hope you enjoy it!
Cheers!
Hi,
New year, new cover! This is my favourite bassline btw.
Enjoy it!
From First to Last - Populace in Two
Impossible to resist this bass — great job! And wishing you a speedy recovery.
Big fan of instrumental music. Nice jam!!!
Welcome to 2026, bass friend! I really like your bass tone. Gratz!
Tell us more about this band… and are you going to do the entire album?
Rick James - Super Freak
One of my goals when I picked up the bass was to get into funk and disco. So today I’m bringing the funk.
I actually recorded this a week ago, but I spent something like two months practicing it to get where I felt I could lay down a recording. I even posted here the other week about how the timing of the post-chorus interlude was giving me trouble. Thanks again to @John_E for advice and encouragement on that.
This song really helped me develop my up/down slide (always gave me more trouble than a single direction), and gave me practice with octaves. Really made me focus on timing too. Which definitely isn’t perfect in a few areas, but I’m happy with where I ended up.
@BassFusion A famous emo band from my teenage years. Sonny Moore (vocals) left the band in 2007 to start a solo career, and today he is better known to the world as Skrillex.
I don’t plan to record the whole album, +44 was just an exceptional case.
@CrayWolf Nice job! Many tracks in the recording! That’s when I realize how much I still have to learn about working in the studio at home.
Great cover!
A tip that helped me with getting the thumb behind the neck is Josh’s technique fix. Definitely something to work on, it makes playing much easier!
Thank you!
Most of the tracks are just Moises splitting the song into stems - vocals, drums, guitar, bass, wind, and “other” (any noise Moises doesn’t know how to categorize). Moises also exports a “smart metronome” track which I didn’t use, but it I kept it in and muted. So basically 7 of the tracks are just the original song.
Then there’s a track for recording my own bass (actually two, I was deciding between two takes). One track for a click, which I only use in those interludes where the drums drop out. And one for audio cues to help me nail the timing of the two bass hits in that quiet part. (In a live setting I’m sure the band would be giving each other visual cues instead.)
I’ve done much simpler recordings with only two tracks - a “no bass” recording of the song on one track, and my own bass on the other.
Thank you!
For the harder parts, my thumb is automatically placed behind the neck, but if I play a song too much or there is a part that is not so complicated at idle, I usually use my thumb to mute the other strings! (Sorry for my English, I hope I got the point
)
