Post Your Covers! (2026)

@Blaze Nicely played on all of them. Where’d you get the music for Lit Up? I started learning it from Songsterr but it didn’t sound right so I found a cover on YT which is totally different.

Thanks Rob! Man you know, I found the tabs online for lit up awhile back after looking and looking. Don’t quite remember where exactly I found them. It’s been a minute. If I can find them again I will surely let you know!!

Thanks a lot John! Hoping to catch them in June when they come to NJ if it works out.

Thanks a lot Travis! You are tearing it up yourself these days, really enjoyed the last batch of songs, especially that Danzig cover! I have a younger sister and growing up I got pretty used to being the “cool older brother”. Then one day we were hanging out and she causally mentioned going to a Danzig show over the weekend. It was then I realized she had surpassed me

Ah man I’m jealous myself haha  I would love to have seen Danzig live!!! Thanks dude! I’ve always got stuff I’m working on and with my current schedule of having time to myself at home it is gonna be every other weekend when I can actually record and post. So two weeks from now will be the next couple of videos for me. Already working on them and can’t wait to show off the thumbnails haha  Appreciate you sir!

Wow @dlamson13 Wow.

Great groove and feel.

Do you still play guitar as well or have you basically moved to the dark side?

Thanks a lot John!

Yup! 99% on the dark side. I love bass and there’s so much I want to learn and do on the instrument and only so much time. My electric guitars are collecting dust, once in a while I get inspired to pick up the acoustic though.

As you may have noticed, I really enjoy playing instrumental music!

This year I’m diving deeper into my studies, and there will be more challenging covers on the channel.

Starting with this amazing tune by Snarky Puppy (Michael League), using the Boss OC-5 for the synth bass line.

Any comments are welcome.

Thank you all!

Dream Theater - The Spirit Carries On

This song was one of my first Dream Theater “scenes from a memory” (ha!) back when I was a young lad. It didn’t hit the same in early-mid teens as it does now in mid-late 30s… but life experience will do that to ya.

Despite the constant variation, it’s actually one of the more approachable DT bass parts, which is kind of a shame because Myung is a monster that typically gets buried in the band’s “organized chaos” a lot. After listening to this track approximately 9,375 times while recording, what jumped out to me is how the bass moves between roles without ever making a big deal about it: it harmonizes with the piano in the intro, supports the guitar through the verse/solo, and always finds its way back home to the drums. There’s a pre-chorus turnaround around 1:47 (and again later) that I weirdly enjoyed learning more than I expected.

DI split into a clean amp bus (AmpliTube SVX-CL into an 8x10) + a tiny Parallax presence layer + a little chorus/Supermassive “Pleiades” for atmosphere, summed back down and tucked to keep it warm but audible when the final chorus ramps.

Video is a single iPhone tripod take in the bedroom… I masked out the household chaos and tossed a gradient background on it because the timing of filming was not exactly “studio conditions.” (I’m pretty sure every non-aquatic living being in my home was in and out of the room while I was recording this :joy:)

Love love love love love this song. When I was doing my advanced directive before my cancer surgery a couple years ago I included a bunch of lyrics from the song in there.

Great job on the cover.

That sounds good! I love the tone in this song. I think flangers always sound good. I’m curious if you learned this from tabs or by ear. I covered this song a couple years ago. Mine is not perfect, especially the part where I space out and forget what I’m doing, but, there are parts where I’m playing more what I want than how I think Simon recorded it. I actually like when songs are covered differently, that’s a big reason to do a cover, to be able to do it your own way. Anway, good job! Lots of Cure fans here on the forum. I’ve covered lots of Cure songs.

Thanks, your cover is nice, I like the picking! I followed this tab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JEL0O6ATSk. This channel is my go-to for The Cure tutorials. I did make one slight change at during the A chord where I played open A instead of the fifth fret on E, and I played the 5th and 7th frets on D instead of A. That sounds closer to the song in my head.
