I was trying to get one to play outdoors but I ended up with this heavy anchor single speaker battery PA. If I put a cart on it I might be able to travel with it but it’s kinda bulky with the batteries. Maybe if I found a way to make it a seat but I don’t think the eq is right for a makeshift Bass amp.
I had one of the bass players of zzzeee Zzzeeerman forum over at my home some time ago.
He looked at my 710 and was like: “meh!”. Cause he had one of those fancy classic (& very expensive) bass amps.
Funny thing is that I had an amp simulation of his amp, either in Amplitube or Overloud TH-U, so I let him play through that.
”Meh” became quickly “whoooaaaaw!”
Still he would never get a PA speaker, be cause of … the look!
Good thing about a PA: you can turn it into anything with the magic of amp sims.
Spark mini sounds great a low volume a just mic it. I recorded with a $1500 mic and it sounds great, you can’t push small amp anything less than 8” driver pass the 70% mark. It just too much for them. Using then just below the threshold is perfect.
Yeah. If I were to play live again I wouldn’t even consider an amp; I’d just get a pair of PAs and run everything through them, with bass and guitar getting amp sims. I mean it’s what I do now I guess too, just with monitors instead of PAs.
I had the spark mini and I was disappointed, cause of two reasons:
very high latency via AUX-in and USB-in
sounds not as good as my JBL Charge 4+, which is cheaper, smaller … and has (almost) no latency….
You don’t have effects with the JBL though … but I play dry anyway, and if I want to play with F/X, I just use my mobile phone or notebook (with BIAS F/X, for example) …
Man I just tested out my battery powered PA speaker for music. It may not be a bass amp but I should have 0 issues using it for backing tracks to play to. Lots of volume and it surprisingly sounds like a dream.
It’s an old Anchor PA 1 speaker/all in one. I swapped out the battery a little while back I also required the 12v out and changed it to 9v reverse polarity so I can technically run my pedals off of it too.
I own one. Maybe if you’re playing with an acoustic guitar and a cajon it will be fine, and even then probably only in an enclosed space.
It’s plenty good for at-home indoor practice with or without backing tracks, but at its loudest I would compare it to listening to music turned up to a moderately loud but reasonable volume. Ten feet away from the amp I can hear it fine but it’s not loud enough to stop me hearing my string noise.
Should also mention that its portability is limited by the fact it has no built-in battery. You can power it over USB, but it wants a power supply capable of pushing 65W. Many laptop supplies aren’t even that strong, and most portable power banks that can do that cost more than the Joyo cube does.
I actually think it’s a great little device but you’ve gotta stay within its limitations.
I haven’t given it a critical listen with this in mind. I think it’s better than my Rumble 25 is in that respect, in that it’s much less muddy and conveys the upper end better. I’ll try to remember to give it a listen later. But from memory, I think it will be adequate but not amazing.
Haven’t tried out that aspect of it yet. My recording rig has noisy USB so using anything except my proper interface (which I’ve got on a ground lift adapter) isn’t great. Something I need to fix.
Nor this.
I’d love to run it through its paces and do a proper review thread for it, but I’ve been under the weather and barely had the energy to even play my bass nevermind mess around with tech. But it’s on the to-do.
I also have a headphone amp and in fact use headphones most of the time whether practicing or playing for fun. But sometimes it’s really nice to take off the headphones and hear the noise in the room. And this is a fairly inexpensive way of getting that.
That’s why I bought the Joyo. It’s a nice way to go sit in another room in the house and play “out loud” without lugging a much larger and heavier amp around.
I’m over it now but lost a few night’s sleep due to a persistent cough. Finally starting to recover from that and get back to practicing and playing after about 2 weeks of this and other things getting in my way. Longest break I’ve taken since I started back in April.
I was wondering how does the Joyo BA-30 Vibe Cube compares to Joyo BanTamP BadASS. They are both very small amps, and the BanTamP seems very small. It is an older model, but it is available (the BA-30 is still out of stock around here).
I’m thinking here of a practice amp for the living room. I guess neither would work outdoors or in a gig, but for now I just want something small to use at home.
I saw positive video reviews of both amps, but those are not usually honest reviews, so I wonder if anyone here has ever tested them and what do you have to say. The Joyo BanTamP BadASS is small, and has a lot of functionality (as does the BA-30). Both might be good enough for just indoor practice. It’s a pity the BA-30 is still out of stock.
Look at that! I last checked it yesterday and it didn’t show. It is good to know!
Funny thing is, I ordered a bass from Thomann and it will be delivered tomorrow or next week. Unfortunately the Joyo wasn’t in stock at the time I placed my order. But now I’ll wait for the black friday deals before buying anything else.
I didn’t realise that! (noob alert) Thanks for letting me know!
