Haven’t found the time to write up a review yet, but for what it’s worth I just recorded a cover using the Joyo Cube as the interface. No drivers, no fuss, just immediately was usable in Reaper and I think it worked well. (If you dig into my comment history you’ll see I’m usually a Linux user, but this was with a Windows laptop.)
That’s with my bass into a Zoom B1X Four running a Bassman amp/cab sim, into the Joyo Cube. USB from there into the laptop. I was using the Joyo for monitoring while recording. Which I guess means there was little to no latency as well, or I would have had to correct it in the recording.
I see that you have a Windows Laptop. Does the Joyo include ASIO drivers or are you really just use the Windows drivers? As far as I understand, not all (Windows) software works without ASIO and latency can be an issue?
Sound is quite good for such a cheap all-in-one device, I’m impressed.
Also, a very nice cover! You’re in the flow
I really just plugged it in for the first time and recorded. I was fully prepared to install ASIO drivers, but it worked just fine without them. YMMV of course.
I was impressed too. If you’re curious here’s some of the isolated bass track, no EQ or other post processing, just what was recorded straight off the cube.
Here, just for the hell of it … here’s my cover with just the room audio, recorded off the cell phone I was using as a camera. Should give you a little idea of how the cube itself sounds, albeit not a high quality recording of it.
My advice is get the version without the pedal. Despite their marketing claiming the pedal can modify any effect, it seems to only have three uses: volume, wah, pitch. And it takes up one spot (out of 5) in your virtual pedal chain to do it.
So unless you really want a wah/pitch/volume expression pedal, the version without is somewhat cheaper and definitely smaller.
Also it eats batteries for lunch, so a power supply for it is a good idea too.
We also ate a chocolate mudcake with coffee on it. And had coffee.
I hope it isn’t unwise to wait for the black friday deals before placing an order. I’m also planning to buy a Presonus Quantum ES 2, and I’m waiting to see whether it will be cheaper here or from Thomann.
Curiously, the ES 2 on Thomann’s page says it has a 6 months license of Studio One+. And at a local store, the ES 2 comes with a perpetual licence of Studio One Pro 7. Weird!
Yeah - better check it. I also saw that it can vary from dealer to dealer. Maybe a mistake?
You can ask Thomann via the chat function … and save the chat for later reference…
I told my friend to get the Joyo now, cause it (really) might be sold out soon. I know quite a few bass players that want it, so it’s popular.
And: how much are you gonna save with the Joyo, considering that it’s 80€? 5€? 10€?
I talked to them through the chat. They said the text in the page seems to be outdated.
They said “Studio one is a permanent license and Pro+ ends after 6 months. These are additional plugins from Presonus. However, you keep the Studio One full version after 6 months.”
