Hi all. Noob here. Started the buzzbass course and really enjoying it. I try to do a lesson every couple of days. Just wondering what would be good to practise between lessons? Josh doesn’t give any advice on this.
Welcome!
This thread from the other day should give you some ideas to start with:
If you have the time, just do another lesson. The course is structured in a way that you don’t need to practice in between ![]()
Best thing to do before, in between and after is playing songs. Never lose sight of why you play.
If I’m not ready to do another lesson, I go back to the previous one and practice on that.
I try to do 1 lesson each day. Before I do the lesson I do the full workout of the previous lesson just as a practice. I have noticed that even if I struggled with the full workout the day before the next day always seems to go a little smoother.
When I was first learning, I would start with simple warm-up exercises. Just plucking and muting different rhythms on open strings.
Then alternating between lessons and learning songs. Go until your brain is full. Take a short break. Switch to a different task that challenges your brain in a different way (lessons, learn songs, practice improv/jamming to backing tracks on YouTube, experiment making noise). Repeat until you run out of time, or hit the wall of total new information that your brain can process.
Step away. Give your brain at least one full night to recover.
Thanks for the advice.
Thank you.
Thanks. Might give that a try.
I do these 2 practice exercises everyday if I can, they have really strengthened my fingers, improved my reach and improved my technique both fretting and plucking.
You could deal with memorizing the notes on the fretboard. Every note you know is a benefit.
Yes its a good idea. Just having trouble keeping the info in the brain box these days! Cheers
I picked up the Bass Guitar book 1 from Guitar Center. It seems to follow along with Josh and I have gone through and practice what is in the book between sessions. It has helped me strengthen what Josh is doing.
lots of great advice, my addition is that when you practice, use a metronome or a drumbeat when practicing, I did not in the early days, but after I started using the drumbeats Josh supplies us with, it really helped me to find my rythm, or the pocket I belive its called
best of luck in your bass journey
