Thank you @John_E @MC-Canadastan and @howard
Wow
Yeah, that reminds me of that Ramons Bass that was up for auction a while back, but I think that was Yellow and not gold.
Either way, I like it.
There was a model similar to it a year or two ago.
Fender Vintera 50’s P-bass
Yours has more detail tho.

Oh, Sick, you got one of those Bridges too, awesome.
I am afraid to try them, cuz I might end up NEEDING to put them on all my basses if I like them, and they are not cheap, about 2.5 HipShot’s.
Looks Great @Mac, Best looking Gibson / Epiphone I ever saw ![]()
Yeah seriously @Mac , that turned out great.
Thank you both @T_dub @howard @Wombat-metal
Just got to give it a good setup and it’s done.
Then on with the V and P bass builds once parts arrive.
That’s what this was when I bought it.
And I have to say it was a really good bass to start.
Ok, so you did the bridge, strings, tuners, and waiting for gold pickups?
Yeah, certainly makes it pop a bit more.
Usually I say no to gold hardware, but it works there, and I like it.
Also knobs, string retainer, pickguard screws and neckplate.
I missed one small detail on my “blackout” Squire upgrade…the nut.
Add a TUSQ XL Black nut today.
Fear not the nut, super easy stuff.
Looks good. Think I will get one for my black PJ.
One last and final (heehee, sure…) mod on the Squire Blackout project.
I de-glossed the neck today.
After watching countless videos with countless different ways to do it, I took a conservative and ‘least mess’ approach.
Took off the neck, taped off the sides of the fretboard and mimicked the de-gloss line of my Custom Shop P. I didn’t use steel wool (not gonna worry about bits sticking to pickups), didn’t use sandpaper, didn’t use the green, normal, scrub your pan 3-M pad either. I used the grey 3-M pad that Stew Mac sells (and others) that is ‘fit for purpose’ supposedly.
Man, this was the easiest thing in the world. Took longer to tape off the neck.
So my new “pro tip” - if you love a bass, but don’t like a glossy neck…you can do this.
Literally took me less than a minute to get a beautiful feeling matte finish.
Not nearly as fancy, but the filler blocks are glued and… blocked in place. My psychic sees routing in my future.
Sorry for the pic quality.
Finally finished and to my amazement it sounds really good
I may make a pick guard for it or upgrade the pickups but I actually like it after all the hassles!
Not a bass for playing sat down easily as it feels so long but again it’s something to get used to . The neck is pretty awful though. Reckon I could hit a home run with it
Nice work! I was skeptical that woodgrain would work for a flying V but in the end it looks awesome.
What sort of pickups did you end up putting in? Did you find the kit ones, or did you have to buy new ones?
Thanks @howard
I ended up buying replacements from China off of eBay @MC-Canadastan . Cheap ones as I wasn’t sure if I was keeping the bass once I’d finished it but they aren’t too bad at all. The mystery of the missing pickups continues
Can’y you play it classical style, with the V around your thigh?
Nice Job
I can indeed. The first fret seems miles away but having arms like a monkey serves me well
Nice work @Mac. Looks great! We’ll need a cover with, though.
I’ve got to sort my recording capabilities out @JerryP .
Been very slack about it recently and keep promising myself I’ll get something set up but never get round to it .
The iRig really doesn’t cut the mustard and I do have a DI in the guise of my BDI21 . Just need a cable and some software
