Sigh…I need to start working on my project bass…the body is going to be fun to design but some of the parts are outrageous
Not sure if we can post a link. anyway…heres link on to basschat where Ive posted 2 of my rebuilds
Here is one for you, @John_E , because I know you’re working on such a build.
Wow, he did a great job on that!
Gave me a couple good hints, pickups in series for sure.
Well this just fits the bill so well I’ve decided to abandon my project and order this one from Dan. Now I have to sort out what to do with my Harley Benton as I don’t need it for the slide project. Was cheap enough that I could use it for just about anything. Hmmmmm
Double humbucker with coil tap, two on-on-on switches: single, parallel, omg
Will need this in 2-3 months, lol
I haven’t forgotten the Bassinsky, just want to get that out of the way right now
My Ibanez Mikro 5 was going to be a pseudo project, but I’ve decided to sell it since I can do all it does on my SRC6. So…
The SRC 6 is “finished in walnut” with a mahogany body, so that tells me it is stained and that I can sand it back and stain it say… black I’ll have to look into this.
Maybe put some Fluence pickups in it. It has the control holes for the Fluence already (2 for EQ, 1 for voice toggle, blend and push/pull volume for coil split to single Js) which is what I am leaning toward. The EMG 35P4 and 35DC (4-string of what my C-5 GT has) don’t use bar magnets (well, the DC does).
Not super interested in the DE or TA EMG sets, or the Mike Inez Legacy Fluence set.
A Darkglass Tone Capsule is also a possibility.
Debating if I want to just try black stain on the SRC6 as-is. But I have ideas. A veneer would be tricky on these curves so probably won’t mess with it. I suppose if black doesn’t work on top of the walnut stain I was going to sand it anyway
Hey, what ever happened to the Hunka Hunka wood bass?
Working on getting a neck for it.
So I have this Ric copy, probably a kit bass, with a really bad finish on it. Looks like something like, well… I might have done. I decided to sand it down, and the grain underneath is fantastic. I stained it with a weathered gray. Take a look
It also dawned on me that replacing the pickups in my SRC6 with Fluences means I now have a set of EMG 35HZs and a 3-band preamp to put in it, too. So I just need to sort a neck and hardware
I love it
Fluences came in today. I derped a bit reading what it came with. I thought it came with concentric bass/treb and mid/sweep knobs, no, it comes with concentric bass/treb if you order a single, and bass and treb individual knobs if you order a set.
And I have no idea how I am mounting this switch in one of the remaining pot holes lol. And it seems tricky to search for the right terms. I guess I could always plug it and drill. Or find a 3-way rotary switch (which is the winning option atm).
Or if I really, really think I will put say, a Darkglass Tone Capsule in it, leave the hole open and drill a hole for the selector switch
Take your time, have the right parts, and do it right.
For the record, my bass with the tone capsule has a lot of presence. It’s a good preamp.
Do they not make a three way toggle switch to fit in the hole?
that was my initial plan. I think this switch is too small for the hole and I need a bigger one. I’ll find out once I get my Strat off the damned bench finally and take apart the SRC6’s electronics.
Edit I have a washer to use for now, and Ibanez, go to Hell for using knobs with two different size allens for set screws LOL. Just… go bankrupt now XD The larger volume and blend knobs are one size, the smaller plastic for the EQ are a smaller size.
That’s the plan (even if it doesn’t sound like it as I mentally list out options XD)
These pickups came with 4 foam blocks that are 1/2" thick and the instructions don’t say what to do with them XD Thanks Fishman…
Internet searching tells me “not a lot of results contain foam” All people on YouTube said was the obvious, they go underneath the pickup. I guess I’ll cut them to the height of the EMG foam
lol… reminds me of Crimson Guitars’ intro. “Burn it.”
Don’t.
What was in there is probably compressed, and you will want more lift when installing.
Been there…
