Project Basses

toothpaste is also an excellent super fine polish. i use it to clean scratches off of watches after wearing them for a few years.

That came up pretty good.

Check out Micro-mesh and Micro-gloss from Home - Micro Surface (micro-surface.com)

Their products can bring even transparent plastic surfaces back to a crystal clear finish.

They can frequently be bought bundled into kits from plastic model hobby shops. Micro-Mesh Acrylic Restoral Kit - 30 Square Feet | Aircraft Spruce

I have some very fine metal polish (basically, fine enough to make a mirror.) That should work too I bet.

Looks beautiful, @terb (as shiny as a dog’s balls, as my military grandpappy used to say).

Deeper nicks that are too deep for buffing out can be fixed with glazing putty. Of course this is another automotive product, but may be useful.

I think I will leave this one as is : I don’t really try to make it look like brand new, I’m more into a “vintage but not crappy” thing  considering that the instrument is 50 years old

Looks very nice! Of course, a pickguard is there to prevent the instrument itself from getting scratched. So, as a result, the pickguard gets scratched instead. Maybe some kind of pickguard guard is in order :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Was inspired by a conversation with someone hating on the Warwick Rex Bass i posted in Ugly Duckling/Freak thread just being an upside down explorer…

My DIY Project has stalled but I kinda dig the yellow outline I came up with, adding a bit more explorer wing to the back and a lower horn…

beware of the weight for this kind of body shape ! an Explorer is super heavy, as you may already know

about a month ago I discovered that at some point since 2001 I had drunk-bought the entire soundtrack and I wasn’t even mad

just the “body blank” weighs 10.5lbs before cutting anything off it :joy:

Iirc The Beast weighs about 10.5lbs itself.

the neck is about another 2, the hardware about 1lb. So I guess the question is, can I cut off 3lbs of wood from the body blank. Who knows.

Kinda surprised on the body blank, since it’s basically all pine and maybe there’s a piece of fir in one of the 2x4s…

Sounds like you need to go semi-hollow body…(router-fest).
