I was guessing the Stingray might end up not being your style. But I am surprised at the EUB - is this because you like real uprights more?
Best of luck selling them, looks like nice buys for someone.
Itās a bit of a long story, but Iāll tryā¦
I lost a lot of body strength after my surgery and find the weight and bulk of the acoustic upright to be a bit more than I can handle. I discussed it with Sara, and we came to an agreement that if I sell the acoustic and the NS Wav EUB, I can get a Yamaha SLB300 which is 25% of the weight and bulk of the acoustic upright and sounds just as good. I have the acoustic for sale locally, and I listed the Ray5 as a kicker because I now have my Yamaha BB735 back in the stable. Iām one of the few who doesnāt feel that I need multiple basses.
At the end of the day, Iāll have the 2 Yammies: the SLB300 and the BB735.
Yay Team Yamaha!
Ya this thing is amazing looking and sounding. Go for it!
I have a question or two for all you Reverb-savvy and -experienced buzzers:
Thx!
I donāt always see this but itās not reverbs markup per se. If I sell on reverb Vs talkbass or Facebook I add to the price to cover the fees (same as on eBay).
For packing - I keep 1 or 2 boxes in the garage with good packing in them just in case and pack it like it came (or close to it).
Iām an excessive bubble wrapper @joergkutter . I like to use as much as I can fit into an original bass box and just to add to it I usually make an extra little box thing to go over the headstock to protect the tuners.
And I always like a nice bit of cushioning at the top and bottom of the bass
The seller sets the price, and Reverb does not add anything to that set price. If the item is sold through Reverb, they take a percentage of the selling price (I think 5%). It has been my experience that usually a sellers price matches their website if they are also advertising the item there, but this is not always the case. I always assume the seller just didnt update the price at an alternate site if it doesnāt match. After all, this can be a lot of tedius work depending on how many items you are selling online.
I always try to save a few good boxes in case of a resale, but Reverb will also sell you a shipping box if you dont gave one (as well as shipping label). Seller fees, packing fees, shipping fees, as well as any negotiations with the buyer all add up and can make it so it no so lucrative to resell at Reverb. At the same time, you dont get the protection or the credit card processing ability you get when you sell through Reverb. It is more of a convenience than a way to maximize your profit from a resale.
Thanks, @John_E , @Mac and @AnotherJosh - seems like I should have kept some boxes (itās just a space problem, really)
Regarding Reverb: I saw a bass the other day for around 4400 USD on Reverb, and when I checked on the sellerās homepage, the same bass was 4000 USD. Thatās 10% more expensive on Reverb
Yes I have seen this too.
I think this is a way of free advertising for the brick and mortor or web shop.
If I find something I want on Reverb, the first thing I do is look to see if a seller has a website or actual shop, then reach out to see what the āreal priceā is and if I can get tax free (if out of NY state it generally is).
To me, this is simply cleverness.
And hey, if someone wants to buy the more expensive option - well, there are people for that too I guess.
Iām currently offering this G&L Tribute L-2000 on Reverb:
The specified shipping costs apply to any part of the USA and Canada.
With a specific zip code I might be able to reduce FedEx costs.
If the seller promote the listing even at the low circulation it adds 2.5% to the fee, plus 5% reverb fee and 1.5 or 2% payment processing fee, thatās your 10%. Selling a couple hundred bucks worth of instruments is not that big of a deal but a $4k yeah youād feel it.
If itās a store Iād look up the shop name and contact them directly and ask them if the can give me a deal, if they are small enough shop, they usually offer 10-15% off thatās all Iām usually after, someone to take care of my 10% tax, lol.
As for the shipping box, if you live near a big box music store you can always check their alley, usually they leave the empty boxes out without flattening them and put in the bin. The guitar center guy told me that.
Thereās a sweet spot for the shipping size for bass, so get the smallest ones that would do the job. I usually save the Squier bass box or the best one is the G&L they are small and offer full protection.
Yes, good advice by @Al1885 and @John_E for anyone thinking about buying via Reverb (and I am obviously not taking about all of you who have little private Reverb shops here).
@Al1885: thanks about the packaging/shipping advice. Sadly, most of this might work in the US, but not so much around Europe anymore (and I am not living down the road from Thomannās either )
The advantage of seeking on reverb as a private seller is the shipping discount, itās about 25% off UPS and FedEx. Itās no biggie when I ship on the same coast (West) but when I ship to East coast especially New York thatās almost double, lol.
I found a bass on Reverb and contacted the seller (individual) directly. We worked out a better off-line deal for the both of us.
I always do this as well. However sometimes the item price is the same but the shipping is cheaper on Reverb. I donāt know why. But I obviously go for the cheaper shipping. Iām talking about $50 items where thereās no real room to haggle.
@joergkutter to cover your ass always take lots and lots of close up pictures before you pack the item and take pictures of the item being packed. If thereās any dispute with Reverb about damage that the recipient claims then itās useful to have this when youāre dealing with Reverb (ask me how I know )
I always send the close up pictures of the item plus pictures of the item being packed to the buyer. Iām polite and emphasize that this is a non returnable item which Iām taking great care to pack and I hope they enjoy their new guitar. The overly polite series of messages is so I have an audit trail if thereās a problem. Once bitten etc.
The best advice is to over pack it so you donāt have to deal with returns. You can set your return policy to āas described, no returnsā and this gets rid of people buying it, just to try it out.
Cheers
Thanks, @Barney - Iād really prefer local people who can come by and pick up the bass(es) I want to sell, but since that is not going to well, I might have to expand and use Reverb and thus accept the hassle of packing and shipping
Thanks for the pointers!
I go into my local music store and ask my bass guy for a box. He just goes to the back and grabs one for me.
Sigh
