"Share some good music" Friday

Legend!

He came up to us fans, not vice versa, and said “Anybody wanna ROCKANROOOOLLLLLah!” We all reply “Hell yes!”
“Well, go on then.” he said and left.

Absolutely effing brilliant, @PamPurrs! And from a bunch of Germans, for crying out loud

And, of course, you know who the “crazy diamond” is they are referring to, right!?

Yes indeed… Syd Barrett. What kind of Pink Floyd lover would I be if I didn’t know that? LOL

Yeah, I know, that was a cheeky question

don’t know, shame on me. I’m not a Pink Floyd fan (but I like what I know ; I may have to listen more to their records) but I’m always happy to know more about rock culture  please develop !

Syd Barrett was the original songwriter/lead guitar/singer for Pink Floyd. He was brilliant, but he partied constantly, and fried his brain with acid and other drugs and had to leave the band. He spent later years mentally damaged, and ultimately died. He was replaced by his friend, David Gilmour.
Pink Floyd was forever devastated by the waste of talent, and loss of Syd, which is what lead to the creation and recording of the song, “Crazy Diamond”. The meaning was that he was a diamond in the music business, but was very wild and crazy with his life.

BTW, the later song, “Wish you Were Here” was also dedicated to Syd. Bassist Roger Waters and lead guitarist David Gilmore wrote it after Pink Floyd obtained super-stardom, and felt bad that Syd wasn’t there to enjoy it with them.

Pink Floyd snippet: Roger Waters only played bass because they needed one. He’s a guitarist by trade.

I had to share this today after seeing it again on an Old Grey Whistle Test rerun last night. Is this a good beginners bass line or what? Simple, a little stamina needed, root 3rd & 5th, and demonstrating triplets and syncopation (?).

And the fidgety guitarist is Wilko Johnson, later of The Blockheads.

I wish the camera operator would have focused a little more on the bass player, but of course, they never do.

While watching this, I became concerned that the guitarist’s head was going to fall off. LOL

In the 1970s I think it was even worse for bass players. You usually only got just enough screen time to figure out the make of the bass - model ID is for experts or distinctive models only.

As far as seeing this one more; I’m not sure what else you’d get from it. Does he play more than 3 notes?

I’m sure I’ve seen a clip of them in which Wilko was really going for it - even more than in this vid. He had a certain style, that’s for sure.

An hour into Friday here, and since we’re talking effects in the other thread, let’s start this off with some nice distorted and compressed bass.

and maybe some nice deep bass chorus.

KIZASI: is the dude playing with his guitar on a stand??? Weird!

here is what I discovered this week :

Yep! He has a hand injury and it’s the only way he can play.

It apparently affects him live sometimes. I thought this was pretty charming of the rest of the band helping smooth over his flub:

Oh wow, I like it. It reminds me of a gritty, harder edged version of M83.

Talking about Pink Floyd, in Europe Roger Waters, Us & Them is running in the cinema’s for 2 days
In Holland Oct 2nd and 6th, I already went on the 2nd and still thinking to go on the 6ht again
