the recording/production quality is amazing

I’m kind of wondering how they miked the drums because they sound great, very clear, and that room just had to be loud AF.

Alright, still Friday here in San Diego (took me all day to get here, too)…

Here is a good infusion of fusion (haha, my brain is a little jet-lagged) - I know you are all craving it:

Greg Howe’s “Hyperacuity” - with some interesting bass playing, credited to a certain Dale Fischer, who, however, seems to have done not much else and who nobody seems to have seen or met…

Apart from the, uhm, singing, this has some King Crimson-esque features!

I have not heard this track for close on 25 years but it just came on the radio and I though “cool bassline”
Turns out I was singing the words all wrong as well

Had to google this one  But, yeah, if schedule permits, I might give this one a try… I am staying close to the Convention Center, so should be manageable. Really only have three days in SD this time, however…

(sorry, way off topic in my own thread )

Blast from the past. This was out when I was in a band at school with a guitarist called Paul King (same as the lead of this band, I believe) and for years I joked that I was in a band with him. How foolish did I look when I discover that the Paul King I was actually in the band with went on to be bigger than King - or longer lasting and broader geographic fan base. Actually…

… here he is. I may have shared this before. He formed the band Rosetta Stone who were influential in a lot of that sound without having the big UK commercial success, but apparently they were big in Europe. Maybe @terb is familiar with them as it’s a predecessor to some of his music tastes.

Coincidentally, I’m playing Level 42 on vinyl in the other room as I type this, so there’s another King reference.

Given that it is 6am where I am, and that I am heavily jet-lagged, and that I have watched “Inception” on the flight last night, this reads like someone is really testing my current comprehension abilities :scream: - too many kings in this Shakespeare play :joy:

Oh now you’ve got me on a nostalgia run. This is Alternative Radio who had a bit of success in the UK with their 80s take on a slightly alternative sound inspired by a lot of local bands who had made it big at the time - want a list, ask me.

The sometimes guitarist and 3rd brother in the band was a sometimes guitarist with the band I was in with Paul/Porl King.

Really like the tone on that bass too!

Always wanted to play this on the violin. Kinda wrong and kinda right on the bass, but more right than wrong!

I saw Tina Guo play this on cello (in concert with Joe Bonamasa) and I knew it was my long term goal. Her intensity is spell binding.

At the other extreme, here I am, only able to reliably chug 100bpm 16th notes if they are all the same note

Friday friday friday ! (no)

yes, the intro is more than 6 minutes long.

it may not be obvious if you’re not into doom/sludge things but those guys are VERY talented. Yob is for me a major band in this kind of music.

Ooh that’s good. I actually love the intro, almost a standalone piece itself, though one that goes nowhere

Thanks to you and @StefanK I’m going deep into the post-rock hole. Man, I said it in the other topic but I’ll repeat it here: there is more (and IMO better) guitar-based music being done right now than at any other time in history. It’s really kind of incredible what the commoditization of music production has opened up.
