yeah that’s what the “core” says in all the *core styles
Wow, that brings back memories, @eric.kiser!
For me “The Dream of the Blue Turtles” really blew me away, along with the live “Bring on the Night” (and the movie along with it)! How a post-punk/new wave/pop singer decided to surround himself with a bunch of jazz musicians and make songs that feel fresh (from their harmonic approach, the arrangements and the lyrics) was very appealing to me.
I didn’t know there were live videos of the songs from TST, though! Love it how he quotes from his own older Police songs here (“Every little thing…” towards the end)
Yeah, I really loved what he did with making Jazz more accessible. I don’t remember which album it was but he won a Grammy for best new jazz album. When he accepted the award he was apologizing to all the “real” jazz musicians for getting it. It was rare moment of humility from Sting. I read later that there were a lot of jazz musicians that were glad he won it. The idea being, they felt the jazz community needed to do a better job of giving fans what they wanted to bring new fans in to hearing their music.
When I read that I couldn’t help but think of Bring on the Night being a gateway drug to Acid Jazz.
Great video. Big fan of Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and David Sancious on keys here but he can also tear up a guitar
Monday morning, trying to work, but big system outage. Gives me time to peruse this thread. Going to inject some of what moves me.
Starting with my theme song SuperStudio - Calibro35
Ikebe Shakedown is a great band. Horses isn’t a bass heavy song, but just demonstrates how great restraint can be.
I saw Jethro Tull mentioned on this thread, but no mention of one of the (IMO) best bass songs ever. Bouree.
I love everything about that Calibro35 video.
halfway in between James Bond and Austin Powers
Good stuff! I love a good melodic female singer. I was raised on Stevie Nicks…she used to sing me to sleep as a young boy…and still does at times today!
Does anybody listen to Jojo Mayer?
Here is a more recent example of his bands work.
Methinks we have had him somewhere in here before (perhaps not this thread!?). And, I also seem to recall that @Gio mentioned him… but not 100% sure.
Awesome drumming… I never could get anything working with the traditional grip on the left hand…
I’d love to take some credit for knowing about this fella… but this is all new to me.
Very cool.
Awesome. Great neck on that bass player, he was groovin
More Joe Dart is a bumper sticker I would put on every open surface of my car. Including windshield and windows.
That is one way to keep a car from falling apart
I really dig this bass line. Simple and driving.
Just some nice Krautrock from the 70’s! First time I heard it, I thought they had found a previously unreleased ELP recording… It’s that kind of stuff I wanted to play (and compose) in my early years… and kinda did, I guess
Happy Friday (despite the fact the whole world is going down the cr…)!
new Lamb Of God record coming soon ! (may 2020)
This week I bring you IT by Afroskull. Going to feel like a carpenter with all the hammering going on in this one!
Also, Green Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf
